I have been advised to quit taking whatever antibiotic I am on until the Herx passes. Is that what most people do? Or do most people just toughen up and go through it.
My LLMD says they have found that by staying on the ANTI during a herx can cause a setback in treatment.
Thoughts? Opinions? Tks.

The idea of backing off during a bad "herx" is definitely reasonable. Lyme is relatively slow-growing, as bacteria go. If the toxins from the dead lyme bacteria are overwhelming your system, you aren't going to lose much ground by taking an abx-break here and there. But then again, it is DYING lyme bacteria that cause the herx. And the only good lyme spirochete is a dead one; I have no doubt that we all agree on that! So I decided to "weather" most of the herxes up to a point, when I thought about that... DaveS Posts: 4567 | From ithaca, NY, usa | Registered: Nov 2000

Excellent point. Thanks for your comments. I have had a few herx episodes since I begin treatment in late May.
To be quite honest, I just couldn't make myself quit taking the ABX for that very reason. How could I quite something that is helping?
It makes it pretty tough to get up and go to work though. There are days, like today, when I just can't get up for the game. So...I called in sick...again. Oh well...it is out of my control.

You got some good advise, if you can stand the herx then go for it. If it becomes to difficult to bare, then you can lower the dose for a few days. You don't have to completely go OFF abx. This approach has worked for me.
Take care, Lisi
