Anybody knows who and where originated this bad treatment for Lyme disease such as 3 weeks of Amoxicillin?

I heard that the recommendation come from New Engl J Med. Has anybody got the full references for this recommendation?

Hey Lymen,

If you do a search on the net you will find all sorts of stuff from 10 dyas which is even as recent as May 6, 2003 as noted here.. more Steere Camp logic behind this I'm sure:

I believe the AMA sets the standards for care but I am not sure who did the initial research that was used to determine that "2 weeks standard" was adequate treatment for Lyme Disease.

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/453519?src=search
Here is the leader of Camp A logic:

http://www.citypaper.net/articles/070899/feat.cov1.shtml

The problem is that they go into hiding or become "dormant" after antibiotics are used....until they feel safe again at which point they come out to play .. so are you rid of them?

I dont think so.. at least in my case they are still there after 3 years on meds and 4 months off proved they are still ALIVE and thriving...my symptoms return faster than they left!

The thing that bothers me is that doctors do not diagnose this as a causitive factor for why many people may be ill.. they sooner diagnose them with other illnesses like MS, ALS, FM, CFS and the likes while the symptoms are still there for Lyme.. the CDC says not to rely on tests for a diagnosis,,, so what gives here???
and the governemnt reinforces the standard treatment and goes after the MD's that don't follow them.. WHY?????

here is more recent information that supports the less is better theory..LOL
Notice who is behind it again!

Wormser GP et al. Duration of antibiotic therapy for early Lyme disease: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Ann Intern Med 2003 May 6; 138:697-704.

Steere AC. Duration of antibiotic therapy for Lyme disease. Ann Intern Med 2003 May 6; 138:761-2.

It bothers me to watch t.v., and see all the drugs that they advertise, and you just have to laugh at the side effects. The drugs are worst than the disease!

What can be the worse that antibiotics can do?
Gallbladder?I know many people not taking antibiotics, and they've had their's removed!

A resistance to other bacteria that might come along through bio-warfare?
We already have a BACTERIA that we're trying to irradicate.

I thought that steroids suppress the immune system? I don't know much about steroids, but what are some of the long term effects of them, and other drugs! Over the years, I have been handed so many rx's it would make your head spin!

Is it just me, because I'm not understanding this whole fiasco! Next time you watch ads on the t.v. listen to how stupid it is. Actually listen to all the side effects!

Money, politics, cover-up, but the hell with the people!
Boy that felt good!

WOW you sound like my twin sister Lymeloco!

I thought I was the only one who had this horrible paranoid thoughts !

As for Gall Bladder that came out before I was DX-ed with Lyme.. so they can blame that on lack of proper treatment of what ever.. it wasnt the added treatment for Lyme..

as for the resistance to someother bacteria hell might as well take me then .. I am so used up from fighting all my life I could care less. only thing I hang in there for are my kids... so sad
Steroids you need to avoid wehn a lymie cause it compromises your immune system and leaves it defenseless..

trust me I know I was admitted to teh mental wards before they knew I had Lyme Disease 15 pounds of fluid in 4 days and it was all in my head I was borderig psychosis,, 5 days off I returned to "normal" whatever that is!

The medical market makes money on all these other illnesses... they wont make any on Lyme.. might get most people off the disabilty too.. cant have that happen how will they employ all those who can work!!

I think it is time someone sent a letter to the government and told them they are killing our SSA system by not treating Lyme since in very little time everyone will be too sick to work and all will be on disability and there will be no one left to run the world...

keep treating all these other illnesses turn your back on lyme being a cause and annihilate the population.. hey maybe this is Hitler all over again...just in the USA! now there is a thought
LOL
