this is the second time that i start meds (mino & zith) that i end up with all over itching and rash. we're trying to stick it out as i have bad allergies and other abx make me wheeze (not too bad with this yet) (skritch, skratch).
saw the post about aveeno oatmeal, but $6.99 to try something that might not work (scratch, SCRATCH, scratch) or even make it worse, is tough on my budget right now.
so, here's a dumb question: can you just put regular oats in the bath? you know, the organic stuff in bulk from the store? any idea whether that works? what is the magic in the aveeno anyway? it says it is "colloidal oatmeal" which just means its fine & distributed evenly in solution. so what if i blenderize the oats and put that in the bath? ideas? anyone ever try this?
scratch scratch scratch, dm.

Well, I haven't, but it sounds reasonable. Try it and let us know if it helps.

Hi duramater~
No, I haven't tried using regular oats...but it couldn't hurt to try it. If it doesn't work, the store is always there for you to buy the Aveeno stuff....
Good luck Timaca ps...I had thought I might be able to make it a month without having to contact our LLMD inbetween appts. Didn't work...he got 13 pages of stuff from the ER from me on Monday! Posts: 2872 | From above 7,000 ft in a pine forest | Registered: Feb 2005

hey scatchie
Yes you can. Cook up a big batch and dump it in the tub.
Or slather it on the scatchie areas right out of the pan too. My dogs love this! The thing that helped me the most was the caladril pink lotion. And oral benadril.
Do you have an epi pin on handy? I have always had one because I am also allergic to.
Take care and try not to scatch. It makes it worse.
If you haven't already call your LLD- ASPA

Duramater: Yes, you can put oatmeal in the blender and pulverize it. Add the oat flour to the bath.
I did this many years ago when my sons had chicken pox.
Good luck, hope it helps. Carol

I use the Aveeno bath when my daughter gets a rash, and it does work very well.
Never tried blended oats though. That would be a lot less expensive!

Hi Dura:
You know those expensive "stop scratch" sticks from drug stores? Well - a friend of mine figured out they are a dilute mix of water and amonia (dilution is 3:1 3 parts water 1 part amonia). She said she's also used it 50/50 on some areas of itchy rash on her arms.... She has never bathed in the mix though.
SO- I'm just floating this idea out there-- but I wouldn't jump in a bath of this stuff- but you could mix some up and try some on a few areas.
Geesh- becarefull if you're wheezing- that sounds like an allergic reaction..
Good luck, Barb
