I know that I have intercostal muscle pain between my ribs, but does it extend all the way up to the collar bone and up the sides of the neck?

I have had stabbing pains that are quick to come and quick to go -- just under my collar bone and above the breasts. Hurts like crazy and can be a precursor to a nasty herx. Thought I was having a heart attack, but all checked out okay at MD with EKG and blood pressure and bloods.

Anyone else have this pain in the collar bone area?

Im so glad I read your message. I have had every symptom I have read with Lyme except pain. Ive had tremors, ears ringing, numbness... I could go on. But then in the last couple weeks all of a sudden my left legs joints, my upper back, and my neck started to hurt. In the last couple days I developed this bad pain that starts under my collar bone and go back to my armpit. It doesnt come and go its just there! Im not sure what it is but Im comforted to know its not just me. (Not that I want anyone else to suffer) But you know what I mean.

yes---have been dealing with this for years. Not all the time...does come and go.

most recently am seeing a new physical therapist who has pin pointed the most sore and tight muscles. It is some muscle group I can not remember....but it connects your collar bone all the way up to behind your ear.

Take a moment and gently press in these areas....does it feel tender and sore or painful?

My muscles are trapping the nerves and so i get thoracic outlet symptoms...like carpel tunnel but up at the shoulder. the nerve pain can be excruciating.

The one thing that has REALLLLLY helped has been this therapist getting in there and really working those muscles. DO NOT press IN the collar bone area--you will worsen the situation...he actually gets under it and presses OUT--like he is lifting me by my colar bone. It is INTENSE and it has been so very helpful.

I have had 50% or more improvement in pain symptoms in just one week with this technique.

hope this helps,
trails

Thanks Lisa and Trails,

I just got a massage certificate as a gift. I'll tell them about what you said Trails. I noticed if my 4-year old sits on my lap and rests his head on my chest, the collar bone area gets set off. So is it another "intercostal" muscle group?

Best to both of you,
