Do you know if Graves Disease is caused by or related to Lyme or one of the co-infections?
Thanks, Kayda

I was diagnosed with mild Graves disease in 1989. I was on proprananol for about 6 mths. It was the first time in my life that I experienced total calmness within. I liked it alot but the doctors said it was a very dangerous drug. They monitored my blood weekly.
The symptoms went away and never returned although I did go right back to that internal feeling of always being revved just a little too tight. It gave me boundless energy.
Since then I developed lots of autoimmune things like allergies and asthmas. I have lived in tick infested areas all my life and every summer picked ticks off me, so when did I get infected? Man, who knows.
Point is, I was a active child and adult who never showed any lyme symptoms until 1995 when I was struck down hard by a mystery illness. Lyme was one of the suspects as was RA, Lupus and MS. All were ruled out. 6 mths of rotating rounds of abx got me better.
10 yrs later, struck down again, this time with arthritis which has been diagnosed as RA. Now blood tests reveal I have had lyme. Even Igenex could not say I have it now.
Is Lyme the culprit? No one can say for sure. For sure my immune system is compromised.
I am dealing with my disease by healing my body. It is working, though a slow process. I believe it is my only hope.

My husband was diagnosed with some type of thyroid disorder. Can't remember exactly the name given, but I know that it was in hyper mode. He had other symptoms also that were not pleasant.
He was told that he would have to start taking meds and would be on them for the rest of his life. He was only in his late thirties.
Before accepting their advice, he went to an acupuncturist (his t'ai chi instructor). It only took a few treatments and his thyroid normalized, other symptoms cleared, and it has not changed since. It is now ten years later.
But... we do not know if my husband has LD. He is not and has not shown other suspicious symptoms. Perhaps in his case, it was more stress-related.
But I do not see any reason why the thyroid could not be affected by LD and/or co-infections. And if it is, I like to believe that it will improve or clear in time when given the proper treatment.
