Note the line that says his treatment is preventative........he had a bullseye rash for heaven's sake!!!!!!!!! NO mention of coinfections
which are most definitely present in the Hudson Valley.

Not to worry says the article...the treatment is working already...the rash is fading.
[Eek!] [Eek!] ****************************************
This appeared in today's Poughkeepsie Journal,

"Schumer said he went to a physician to have the tick removed immediately after discovering it. But the three days of antibiotics he was initially prescribed did not stop a reddish bull's-eye from appearing a few days later. He then consulted a second physician more familiar with the treatment of Lyme disease, who recommended a more aggressive treatment."
--- full story below ---

Schumer gets Lyme treatment
(Updated with clarification from Schumer's spokesman)

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is undergoing a 21-day treatment of antibiotics for possible Lyme disease.

Schumer said in an interview he thinks he was exposed to a tick carrying Lyme disease while he was conducting a series of news conferences on dangerous dams in the Hudson Valley earlier this month.

In the wake of recent flooding from heavy rain that has filled area reservoirs, Schumer visited the Veterans' Memorial Lake Dam on Gypsy Trail Road in Putnam County, the Whaley Lake Dam in Dutchess County and Beaver Dam in Orange County with Rep. John Hall, D-Dover Plains, to highlight legislation that would provide money for conducting safety assessments and an upgrade of the aging dams.

Although Schumer wore a suit during the May 7 news conferences, a tick apparently climbed up the sock on the Brooklyn lawmaker's left leg and picked a location below his knee to engorge itself.

Schumer said he went to a physician to have the tick removed immediately after discovering it. But the three days of antibiotics he was initially prescribed did not stop a reddish bull's-eye from appearing a few days later.

He then consulted a second physician more familiar with the treatment of Lyme disease, who recommended a more aggressive treatment.

The senator's spokeman, Josh Vlasto, stressed Thursday that the treatment is preventative. ``He doesn't have any symptoms, and the bull's-eye is already going down,'' said Vlasto.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the symptoms of Lyme disease typically include a skin rash, fatigue, headaches and fever, but if not treated it can spread to the joints, the heart and nervous system.

Most cases - especially those detected early - can be treated and cured with antibiotics.

Maybe someone should tell his spokesman that the rash IS Lyme disease. The rash is one of the best places to culture bacteria from.

I'm curious to know who his second doctor is....

Oh, to be a Senator...and have the best health care available.....

I sure hope this Senator takes the time to educate himself and hopefully others.

What??!!! The standard 3 days of antibiotics didn't work??

Maybe we should inundate his office with e-mails re: Lyme disease and a bulls-eye rash.

Although this is not a disease I would wish on anybody (except maybe Wormser),

At least it keeps Lyme disease in the news....

And it is telling that the standard 3 day dose of antibiotics did not work.

Can you now see the Senator conducting his outside business with a tick suit on???

Hugs,

Geneal

PS: Thanks for posting this. I love the title.

At least they shot down the idea that 3 days of treatment would take care of it! Numbskulls!

Maybe he'll have a magic rash like me-one that disappears and reappears every month. My LLMD wrote in my files that I have a tendancy to be trashy-errr- I mean rashy.

He couldn't have lyme disease-doesn't it state somewhere that a tick has to be attached for a certain number of days(hours) to transmit disease? Unless of course the experts are wrong about that too, wait, did I say experts? I meant to say doofus ducks. Sounds like his tick was pulled on the same day.

Hey- maybe somebody tipped him off about Lymenet and he's lurking in the shadows.

Cobby

Well, I think someone has already given him the word because he went on from 3 days of treatment to longer course.

I wonder what his dose is? if it's only 200 mg per day we'll be hearing more about this down the road.
What no 2 pills of Doxy will cure you? That's what the rest of us get thanks to the IDSA ducks.

Sheesh!

Seems likely to me that it's all in his head.

First medical appt. should have been with a shrink. He may have a rash, but my rash didn't matter to my drs in 1992.

Just so you know...

This Senator has co-sponsored our bills and supported us over the years when many would not.

He also has done at least one press conference for us and helped us with other projects.

And he has been helping us raise money for our cause.

If you want to send him anything....

Perhaps a nice get-well card would be in order... along with a simple thank you for his support.

tutu, check ACTIVISM; think it was PHYLLIS MERVINE who started something there for 50 states where you could find info quicker than the long lists we did 1 year ago for tincup's project. [Big Grin] [Wink]

The fact they are calling it preventive is most likely just politics. He wouldn't want anyone thinking he is too sick to do his job.
