I feel like someone who decided to emigrate during the civil war(what an oxymoron). I just found this site and it has been a Godsend, but now I'm getting a little worried. I have had helpful posts to my questions from both sides of the fence and can honestly say neither side crammed either treatment down my throat. I would hate to see such a useful tool fall apart because everyone doesn't agree. I love spinach(for example). It has many helpful benefits nutritionally but I wouldn't insist my husband(who hates it) has to eat it to get the same nutritional value. Always the mom and peacemaker I'm begging Please, don't fight. I really need this help

Blackpowder,
I agree, it is distressing to have all this bickering going on. It's been this way the whole time I've been here.

I use abx and alternative and find them both valuable tools in my fight against lyme. Given the atmosphere around here, we each have to come up with a way to live with the bickering as best as we can without letting it impact our health.

Lymenet is not going away anytime soon. Hang in there and learn as much as you can while at the same time, trying to minimize the impact of the bickering on your well being.

Hang in there blackpowder! I have been using lymenet for over a year, and while it is a life-saving source of information and some wonderful folks, it does seem to have occasional eruptions!

Hopefully Cave will be reinstated soon. Is it a coincidence that yesterday was a full moon?

It's unpleasant but I've been here since '98 and seen FAR worse, like the initial MP thing and the ICHT fiasco. Not to mention the mary kurus nonsense.

And then there were the angry villagers.

I'm counting to 10 repeatedly all day today and don't want to post on the other thread because my gift for sarcasm might inflame things further. We'll get Cavey back, I hope.

Have a nice Corona with lime and salt and let things settle like I'm doing.

Hi Blackpowder,

I agree with Vermont, you will on occassion find some eruptions but for the most part people are well intended.

Isn't that the truth most everywhere you go?

Kind regards,

Julia

Hi BP:

I'm new here too and hope to learn about All treatments including antibiotics, alternative -- anything that may help anyone suffering from Lyme. I don't feel I need to be saved from knowing about these alternatives -- I wouldn't blindly take just anything.

I do agree the problem is the Civil War -- If everyone stated their opinions in a civil manner then there would be no war.

Yes, I was taken aback by some who attack posts they don't like with mockery, rudeness & taunting -- encouraging their buddies to do the same.

I have to say the majority of people here made me feel welcome, but unfortunately not all. So thanks to everyone who posts their point of view respectfully to one another as the last thing anyone dealing with Lyme needs is more stress.

In any group of dedicated and passionate people there are going to be conflicts. Differences of opinion and experience are fine and healthy, and help us grow.

In addition, we are dealing with a community of people many of whom suffer from depression, chronic pain, OCD, panic disorder, lonliness, you name it, so conflicts may be more intense.

Conflict and abuse are not the same thing. Abuse includes blaming, threatening, heckling, and name calling, with the intention to hurt another person.

I like it that there is a policy on lymenet not to support abusive behavior, even from the most invested and informed of us. That is part of what keeps us vibrant and alive.

(I can't speak to individual decisions about where this line has been drawn, since I certainly don't read every post.)

Hang in there. These kinds of struggles come and go. Most do eventually get settled in a healthy way, with participants agreeing to disagree, or at least agreeing to be respectful to one another in the process.

I hope that will happen in the current situation.

Conflicts have happened before and they will certainly happen again. A wealth of information and positive support remains, regardless.

It seems to cycle with the moon I swear.

I've been reading here for several years and in my view, the majority of the arguments have to do with alternative vs abx. This issue has disrupted the board many many many times.

It would be nice to be able to carry on a discussion about alternatives without constant tactics by others to disallow the conversation but alas, that does not look possible. We carry on as best as we can.

I think the moderators are doing as good a job as possible about it.

They have banned people on both sides of the fence.

We all need to play nice or we won't get to play.

Hi Black Powder, [dizzy]

I'm so sorry you're bothered by certain postings on certain threads. I'm sure that's not the intention of anyone on this site. (I hope.)

A couple of quick things: I've been researching the geneology of my family and have seen that people did immigrate here during the Civil War. They tended to stay out the hot spots, though.

I think it's possible for most of us to be okay with each other most of the time. I know that I sometimes reach a stage of irritation when I feel as though a person's point of view or beliefs become the primary point of a post. That's when I tend to react. Sharing info is great, trying to attract new followers is something else, especially when the posting person is often misinformed about what he or she is pushing. My other pet peeve are those on the web site trying to sell things, pretending to be a lymie, but really trying to sell products.

Also be warned that it appears that some number of people have more than one name on this site, so that 1 person looks like 2 different people during discussions. I mentioned this to one individual and I noticed my post was gone the next day.

My irritation never lasts but a few minutes, life's too short. Perhaps a good start would be to cease having further discussions about which "side" is worse. Keep it to yourself. Everybody gets endless opportunities to express themselves but there is no protective barier around specific threads. Some of us wave a red cape and act suprised when there are those who respond who do not agree. Don't post it if you're going to be upset. Who's the worst side or the person at fault is in the eye of the beholder. Also, humor is a great coping mechanism which includes sarcasm. I think we all need to remember that and use it wisely and recognize it for what it is.

I posted somewhere else that I hope we can all consider the good of our whole community, not just our own little comfort zone. I hope we all can focus on each other as inviduals and not a "side." That means, though, that we ALL do that. A hostile, suble or otherwise, posting, will probably beget a hostile reply. That's fine as long as you can deal with it and don't complain.

Just to emphasize, I think it's fine for anyone to respond to any thread. I don't, however, think that we all need to know every nook and crany about Dr. whoever's whole belief system. I'm sure Dr. Belief System has a web site of his/her own.

Black Power, I hope you can take something of worth from this web site but as someone already said, a discussion board by nature will create conflict. I'm glad we're all different. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Alright, Mini...this was just too funny to pass up!!!

I 'spect you meant 'Black PowDer.'

Which brings up another perhaps timely point:

A sense of humour's a sad thing to lose. We would all do well to remember that lyme disease does disastrous things to your sense of humour.

And yeah -- I got a citation for that!!

good catch. I totally missed the omitted "D" in the name. I hope I didn't sound "above it all" with this post. I was just worried that everyone would start to become "absent" for awhile and some of the folks I thought might leave were those who gave me hope and inspiration. I was so ready to give up the fight till I found this site. Just didn't want to lose it

Black Power - too funny. [lol]

I posted this on another thread and thought it might ease your mind since I'm sure Cave will be back.

When we join lymenet, we agree to follow their rules. People are banned from lymenet when they do not follow the rules. Apparently Cave had been warned before.

I don't know the specifics of what rule was broken. I'm sorry it came to her being banned. Others have been banned in the past and are allowed to come back. I've no doubt Cave will be back as long as she agrees to follow the rules.

I've never seen favoritism shown to anyone at lymenet when it comes to enforcing the rules.
