I think I asked this on another thread, but I don't think anyone responded....if someone did, sorry, I forgot!

I don't want to hurt myself! I am thinking of doing 4 days on, 3 off. So is 800mg per day okay?

Thanks!

Alv asks that for a good reason.

Artemisinin, alone, is not a good idea. It should always be combined to potentiate the effectiveness and minimize resistance. Dr. Z's formula is a combined treatment and the 400 mg. showing for that is more than the artemisinin but a total of all three of the ingredients.

And, If it what you have is just straight art., are you also taking another Rx with it ?

Nope, Nutricology's Super Artemisinin.....180mg Art, 20mg Sweet Wormwood Leaf Oil per pill. I take 4 daily.

I would be willing to switch, I just figured the whole plant might not be a good idea (Zhang's?), in my own uninformed logic.

I am also on Mepron, 1 tsp twice daily, 250 mg Zith daily.....also, high dose Amoxy, and HOPING to start Plaquenil soon, but my doc is dragging his feet.

My LLMD suggested artemesia although I don't have classic symptoms.

Then she dumped me onto a PCP here who was supposed to be able to treat lyme she said. But is not at all helpful

So I've been going by what I read here. Recently someone said 4 days on 4 days off.

I can't do anything about getting a rx to go with it. So will it really hurt rather than help ie. become resistant?

I definitely have a reaction to artemisia. Does that mean I do have babesia?

I would NOT think it would cause anything to be resistant, but that is just a random guess. I would also think ideally you should be on something else for babs, but it's not like you can write yourself a prescription (wouldn't that be nice?) [Smile]

And, I would say that depends what the reaction is....if it's night sweats or "classic" babesia symptoms, I would be inclined to say yes. But if it is just random symptoms, they could just be Art side effects? Dunno.

You are probably a better gauge of yourself than anyone. When I first had a Babs herx, I was in denial that I actually had it, but once I felt the herx, there was no doubt. Not that it would be like that for everyone though.

Mepron is for babs, too.

I can't comment on dose - others can - and your doctor obviously has you on a combined treatment with the art and the mepron.

that's good.

Dr. Z's is a combo, too, but diff. - but what you are on now should be fine with the mepron and it's also not just straight art.

Be sure to ask your doctor about all your questions, too.

Hi Dr B would not have advised taking Artemesinin on it's own, Babs is a parasite and can get resistant.

He used to say take 300mg a day, btu that's not to say higher doses are not safe also. The Schaller book on Artemesia might cover this ? ( I haven't read it though).

Dr H uses the 5days on/3 off approach

DOn't know much about dosages, but artemisinin has

had some neurotoxicity

problems associated with it. Google it with the terms toovey and

toxicology to read about it.

I'm not necessarily saying you shouldn't take the drug--it's helped

people--but I'd make sure to always run any questions like this

by a knowledgable doc.
