Hi all,

Is it possible to suffer withdrawl symptoms from antibiotics?

After 11 full months of Rocephin IV I stopped it and one month later I got really ill.

I could have just had an intestinal bug. I'm currently testing for C-diff and parasites.

My stools were loose and yellow for three days. I never had a fever or diarrhea.

I had stopped taking flagyl and ketek two days before I got ill. So technically I was off all antibiotics for two full days and then wham.

The stools are now normal and I am just nauseous.

I saw my primary today who is doing gallbladder(lost it to rocephin) and pancreas testing via bloodwork.

There is a concern about the common bile duct being blocked from stones formed while on the Rocephin.

Just looking for feedback on withdrawl symptoms occuring after long term antibiotics.

Your thoughts?

Barb

Sometimes I can get my stools the right color again if I eat saurkraut with maybe a tablespoon or two of sesami tahini for a few days in a row (expect the runs though), and then follow it with a few days of apple cider vinegar (things firm up).

Worth a shot, if you're desperate like I seem to be a lot.

lymebytes had withdrawal from Biaxin as I recall. I think her LLMD might have confirmed for her she was having abx withdrawal. She sometimes see the main MD in the same office you see your NP in.

I would call your call your LLNP and tell her you think you are having withdrawal problems.

Feel better!

I have never gone off abx yet and when I changed them I just figured the new one was causing a herx, which is probably right.

However, I have heard from many lymies that when they go off abx. they have a withdrawal. I know someone who had a horrible abx. withdrawal from doxy and others who used it for long periods of time for acne said they did too.
