My 6 year old son is being treated for bartonella.

I worry because he cannot take Levaquin, the drug of choice.

So, he's on Zith and bactrim.

It's been one month. He has refills.

But, is this enough?

Anyone with Bart experience, especailly in little people have any comments.

I need to do something, but all the meds for little yield if its not the best one.

He hasn't really herxed. He has had lung coughing(not runny nose) which is where I think it started.

He says his tummy is better. His pins and needles in one foot and pain behind the same knee is better. His mood is less aggressive.

He still seems to have frontal head and eye issues and nasal drip only at night. i hope another month of treatment will resolve this, but what if it just can't get him over the edge because it's not the drug of choice. [shake]

Thanks for any opinions [loco]

Hey 2roads,

Well I don't have any experience with Bart and little people - just my own experience - but I can tell you that Zith knocked my Bart symptoms out.

I think it's encouraging that one month into treatment that several of his symptoms are gone. Hopefully another month will knock out the remaining symptoms. If not, demand that he do another month or two...

Lauren

I don't think it's an tragedy that he can't take Levaquin--seems like it's really a cure that can be worse than the disease.

Thanks Guys!!!

I almost felt like crying hearing the positives.

Yeah, maybe age restriction will save me inspite of myself...it's so hard to be a mom and make lifelong decisions like these for someone else.

I know levaquin is wicked stuff...I took it.

But, it's hearing that other things do help and that maybe I'm just being impatient and ....whatever. I just got the second refill yesterday and when I opened the new bottle, I just felt like [puke]

.....soooo many pills. I just want them to be the right ones and do some ....we need a graemlin for butt kickin'.....excuse my language.
