If you have no yeast problems, and you take diflucan, will anything happen?
If you get sick taking diflucan (like a herx), does that automatically mean you had yeast issues?
Finally, has anyone had issues with folliculitis (inflammation, infection of the hair follicles)? Is that a normal lyme reaction, or is that more of a yeast thing?
As always, Thanks!

Wimenin,
If you take Diflucan, it will kill not only the yeast, but the good flora as well, so a couple of hours after the Diflucan, take lots of very good quality probiotics.
The term "herx", is too broad for me to know exactly what you're describing. Stomach upset doesn't automatically mean you have yeast issues, but if you have Lyme and are in tx, then you likely have yeast issues as well. When I first started tx and took Diflucan, my stomach got upset all the time; now, it doesn't.
I've not dealt with folliculitis myself, but it is listed as one of the many inflammatory sx's of TBD. Whether it's also related to yeast, I don't know.
Certain there are others on this forum with more indepth info to give. Hope I helped you a little anyway.

I saw a pcp and he thought it was possibly folliculitis as my LLMD thought a month ago. So I was prescribed erythromycin and some topical lotion (that had anti fungal properties) too. He didnt think it was lyme related and the last time I saw my LLMD, he didnt think it was lyme related either. So at least the pcp and LLMDs are on the same pg now.
Id be curious to find out if anyone else here has been having any blemish/acne/carbuncle/skin eruptons since the lyme trx.

Wimenin: I'm an 11 year lymie, and just began treatment in May,'09. I had severe folliculitis and my dr. put me on a lotion that has Menthol, Camphor, HC, and Clotrimin. Tingly but it cleared the problem up. So nice to have that irritation illiminated.
I've also been on Diflucan and Nystatin for a month, but my stomach has been protesting so I've stopped everything, including my antibiotics, for the past week. Stomach problems cleared, but muscle pain and twitches came back (bummer, because that was gone since starting meds. Have an appointment today and will update.
My son has had severe acne on his shoulders, back and face for several years. He has just seen the llmd and this is "strep syndrome" which is part of the "Lyme complex" of imbalanced bacteria. "Bacteria Gone Wild" as we call it at home. It is improving slowly since he began treatment with Amox.
Ping: What is TBD?

Diflucan also goes after the cyst form of Bb. It's not as powerful as Flagyl or Tindamax, but it can be used for both yeast and the cyst bacteria.
