A friend of mine from church said her daughter's pediatrician talked her into getting a flu shot for her--she's only 4--so she did.

Within a few hours she had a fever of 101.8, and today her breathing seems labored. Luckily my friend has a job that allows her to work from home to be with her.

I gave her the short version of why I won't get flu shots for my kids anymore and told her to look into it.

And this is a doctor she was trying to talk me into going to because he's so great (and I guess in fairness, he probably is a wonderful doctor, just supportive of vaccines).

Just frustrated.

Oh, no. Is there a good naturopathic doctor that the child can see? Sometimes, there are things that might help alleviate such a set back.

On Mercola's website, I just read an article for what those who are forced to take injections can do to offset bad reactions.

www.mercola.com - just search "flu shot" I guess to find it.

-

Oh, did the girl get a vaccine free of mercury ? Timerasol (sp?) would be that ingredient. I'd ask for the exact mfg. name, and all the specifics about what was in that. Lot number, too, in case it was a bad batch or improperly stored or handled at some point in transit.

I do want to give her the vaccine links. She needs to read that information.

As for the vaers link, they always give that info with the vaccines around here. Is her reaction what they consider a serious reportable reaction?

I know a few small kids that got sick after flu shots.

For about a week in bed.

Well, I would just give the shot in homeopathic version to HELP the child cope with the vaccine toxins. That is what all homeopaths do after vaccination (any vaccination).

The recipy is: the SAME flu shot in dilution C200. Give a few drops for a few days. It will help the body with detoxing and cleaning a bit the harm.

Another possibility is that she her body was already fighting off a viral illness prior to receiving the flu vaccine.

The stress of going to the doctor and receiving a shot could easily bring out an illness.

Colds, croup especially runs rampant in this age group during the fall. Fever, labored breathing, hoarse voice, barky cough that is worse at night and in the morning. Not fun stuff.

Just sitting in the doctors office for any amount of time exposes you to countless contagious illnesses. Little children are more susceptible because they touch everything and then rub their eyes or noses or even put their fingers in their mouths.

Makes me cringe when I see parents give their children snacks in the doctors office. They are literally feeding them loads of germs along with their treats!

Starfall, did the little girl see a doctor for the labored breathing? That is not something to sit on and treat at home. I hope that she is doing better by now.

Both of my kids have had fevers that happened right after the shot and were "sick" for about a day.

When I called the doctor (especially about my VERY young child) about fevers, constant crying, etc.) she said it was normal and to see if it passed. It did.

Back in grade school (oh, in the 60's), I recall feeling sick for a few days after a booster shot. Usually, my arm would swell and have a hard, hot, knot. My mother always said that was a sign that I really needed the shot. I was never so sure about that but I certainly do know that the polio vaccine was a life saver for many. Other vaccines, too. Like many, it's not so much the vaccine concept as the reality what else is in them now.

I wonder, too, decades ago, just what was in the shots or why my reaction when no one else ever voiced a reaction. However, mostly we were told then just to be seen and not heard so we often didn't complain about anything that was not broken or spurting.

Even back in the 70's before going to college and again to grad school when inoculations were required, I always tended to get very feverish and ill for a while afterward. What a way to start studies in a new city, eh? It was always such a struggle for me to think and the shots did seem to make that worse.

Of course, as an adult, new vaccines always clobbered me, too.

A flu shot sent me into a relapse for a month. I came out of it for a few days, and then went into a major relapse.

I stay away from vaccines.

Healthy children DO NOT need flu shots. I have 4 children and if their dr. would have wanted any of them to get the flu shot--I would have found another dr.

Flu shots are intented for the elderly (with consent from PCP).

And those who have immune system health problems.

Any and every time my very healthy husband took a flu shot, like clockwork would get the flu, when he does not take the flu shot he never gets the flu.

My very healthy sister was pushed by her husband to get the flu shot--she got the flu and was so mad at her pushy bossy husband and has refused to ever have another flu shot--that was 3 years ago and has not had the flu once. [Smile]

Medicap Pharmacy has mercury free regular flu shots.

It's a compounding pharmacy chain that has been giving our family flu shots for about 3 years.

The 11 main sites across the U.S, in nine

states, are currently recruiting children for the

vaccine trials. The two-dose vaccine tests are

being conducted at the University of Maryland

Baltimore; Duke University in Durham, North

Carolina; Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas

City, Missouri; Children's Hospital and Regional

Medical Center in Seattle, Washington; and

Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

And the trial comparing H1N1 and seasonal flu

vaccines is at Hope Clinic, Emory University in

Atlanta, Georgia; St. Louis University in

Missouri; the University of Iowa in Iowa City;

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in

Cincinnati, Ohio; Baylor College of Medicine in

Houston, Texas; and the University of Texas

Medical Branch in Galveston.

http://sitemason.vanderbilt.edu/myvu/news/2009/07/23/vumc-to-conduct-early-trials-of-h1n1-flu-vaccine.85012

The eight VTEU sites participating in the H1N1

vaccine trials include the University of Maryland

School of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine,

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center,

Emory University, Saint Louis University, Seattle

Group Health Cooperative, the University of Iowa

and Vanderbilt. They will be joined in these

trials by Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas

City and Duke University Medical Center.

The vaccine will be tested in five different age groups. First, researchers will test the vaccine

in healthy adult and elderly volunteers. If the vaccines are well tolerated in these groups, then

the researchers will begin testing the vaccine in children. Ultimately, as many as 200 adults,

200 seniors and 600 children may be enrolled in the trials.

7.

Will other sites be participating in these initial five trials?

Some of the VTEUs have sub-sites that will join with the VTEUs in conducting these trials. In

addition, to allow for rapid enrollment of volunteers and expand the number of trials, NIAID

may fund other sites to help the VTEUs conduct future trials of H1N1 vaccines. Those trials are

currently under development.

Everyone gets H1N1 every year. There are over 20 strains in the U.S. at any given time and test for it are rarely ever done since it's just like any other virus. The crazy thing is all these doctors do for a diagnosis is see a cough and a fever and they are told to report that as swine flu therefore we look like we have an epidemic of swine flu... shoot I guess I've had it once a year for my entire life.

Here is the VAERS brochure. It says to report *every* reaction. http://vaers.hhs.gov/pdf/VAERS_brochure.pdf It also says that anyone can make the report, so she should do it if her doctor refuses.

Well, apparently she came through okay. She was in church yesterday and didn't seem any the worse for wear.

But I hope this served as a lesson to her mom to not allow someone to push her into vaccinating her child before she does the research herself.
