Epidemic of Disorders in Doctors
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The emergence of Medically Unexplained Illnesses has revealed an epidemic of behavioral problems and personality disorders in doctors.
Patients expressing unfamiliar complaints to their physicians often induce the "It's All In Your Head" (AIYH) or the "That's Impossible" response in doctors suffering from these behavioral problems and personality disorders.
Physicians who manifest the metaphysical belief system of "If we don't know about it, then it doesn't exist" are suffering from a psychological condition known as "Doctors with Unexplained Medical Beliefs" or D.U.M.B.
DUMB doctors are comprised of two categories that are characterized by a) those who are feigning to be DUMB for monetary gain: "Medicalingering", and b) those who are not in possession of sufficient information to render intelligent diagnoses: "Factlessitious Disorder".
Physicians who are predisposed to this condition place an inordinate emphasis on theories of psychological causality for virtually any unfamiliar complaints that are presented to them.
This somatiform obsession with psychological etiology, "Psychosomatization Disorder" or "Psychologizing" is a distinctive characteristic of the illness and should be considered a warning sign that the individual is not rational and may in fact be DUMB.
DUMB disorder may be concomitant but should not be confused with Signs of Thoroughly Umistakable Physician Intelligence Deficiency or "S.T.U.P.I.D." since a STUPID physician is uniformly incompetent while a DUMB doctor is only mentally paralyzed into "psychologizing" by unfamiliar symptoms and complaints.
An immediate investigation is warranted to assess the prevalence of DUMB and STUPID doctors and to determine the impact that physicians suffering from these conditions have on the health care system and their patients.
So does this mean a DUMB doctor can be educated? Or not. Are these temporary or permanent conditions,exacerbated by ego and laziness? If we were in a perfect world, would doctors in these categories be required to give up their licenses? Instead of the current system where good doctors are forced to stop practicing?
Are state medical boards mostly a force for good or for evil? Can any profession police itself honestly?
So many questions.
Dear Friends,
All the more reason to resist the psychiatric drug prescription that follows....
Unfortunately, this DUMB or STUPID response is being PROMOTED by the drug industry!
Although I'm not happy about the way many doctors treat their patients, I'm also not happy about a thread that makes fun of them.
We want them to be polite and understanding.
Shouldn't we be polite also?
Carol - If many are not truly trying to help their families + communities why should they be respected ?
What really made them get involved in health care if not that ?
They deny OUR reality for what reason(s) ?
If they cannot really act professionally why should they be respected ?
Lots of frustration on this site about poor doctoring.
Loved this!
and Carol,
many docs deserve this criticism and more....they take the oath to "first do no harm" yet in their treatment of us as having something that is just "all in our heads" and their justification of it with a stupid made up diagnosis such as MUS, they have taken away our lives, our jobs, our dreams....
They deserve everything we can throw at them.
Yes, definitely an epidemic - needs addressing, which I believe is happening -
Don't forget all the doctors who are just plain W.R.O.N.G. - Woefully Remiss Ostensively No Good, at least for us.
Good one - ha ha. I'll have to show this to my boyfriend, he is a doctor. He has a few for his patients also.
For example the syndrome JPN or just plain nuts.
How about the doctor (Head of Dermatology of a major teaching hospital) who laughed at me out loud in front of 2 residents when I showed him the lesions on my back and head.
He said that I did it to myself and that I needed a psychiatrist. The interns hung their heads in shame. That was 7 yrs ago and it still plays in my head visually. Doctors like this deserve NO RESPECT!!
