I totally agree! I love Mepron -- I think it gave me my life back. I have been on it for...5 months. I am scared to go off that I will relapse.

I am also taking Zith, Art, Flagyl & Larium.

Actually, you MAY want to warn people around you that babesia treatment (or Mepron, or Biaxin, or whatever) may cause severe depression and personality changes. It'll really sneak up on you and I lost a few friends that way even though I'd sorta warned them to watch out for the crazy to happen.

That is a tiny dose, only 1/4 of the normal dose, why are you being under-treated like that? I hope you are on Zithromax and artemesia with it plus FLorastor.

Never know. The more I took the better I felt. I was up to 6 tsps at one point and it was the ONLY drug I did not have Horrible herx reactions from ..

Some herx but things like joint pain or headaches or such.. not sicker or that sort of thing.

And it helped right when I relapsed to find some hope.

Was not my cure all but two times over it helped me when nothing else would.

BUT YES>> PLEASE READ THE MEPRON BLUES LINK AND PLEASE BE WARNED> IF YOU START FEELING NOT LIKE YOURSELF >>> PLEASE DO NOT JUST KEEP TAKING IT Because you think that is what you NEED to do or SHOULD DO. IT is serious but easily fixed by stopping the med and in a few days will clear right up.

Many have taken their lives or have been very close to it. It changes you SO Much you can not really imagine. Not talking about "BLUES" really but ROCK BOTTOM depression and BLACK HOLE and feel like ENDING IT kind of HOLE>

Be careful and keep that information in your mind because when it hits it can hit fast..

I was warned by my doc luckily and THANK GOD>

Build up slow, amke your way up to 2 tsp 2 x a day. That way, you don't herx so hard.

But, just FYI, I was on high doses of mepron/ztih/art for 26 months. And in the last few months, I started to have problems again, so we switched to Larium and holy **** did I herx from hell, after over a year of a Tablespoon twice a day!

But, don't want to get you down, no, no. Good news is that it sounds like MEpron is going to work really well for you, if you are responding at that low a dose! Yipee! Just up the dose slow, and be on guard, get to know your Babs symptoms really well. And if they start getting worse, up the dose, or try another med or combo of meds

Indeed. Those herxs creap up on you. the herx for me came at almost week three and still on going.

My temp went up with flushing, headache, brainfog.

My llmd said well, all those symptoms are babesia.

Definitely take the yellow paint with something fatty..like peaunut butter, olive oil etc.

I appreciate the psych warnings. It's funny--well not funny--but I've posted on here about staggering depression and personality changes while I was on other things. I feel like I already hit that bottom--several times--the suicidal thoughts, the constant agitation, the paranoia, crying a lot blah blah blah. That's when I stay off Facebook and keep to my self a bit more.

Anyway, my llmd says Mepron has lyme cyst busting power. I test neg for Babs but I may still have it based on symptoms. I gather the usual dose is 2 tsp 2x day. I'll be adding zith--what's the usual dose on that. Don't know anything about Floraster--will look it up. I may try to ad the Super Artemesisin I have from before.

And yes I take the liquid gold with fatty food.

The suggested dosage on the label is 1 tsp. 2x a day.

People here are saying for Lyme it is 2 tsp. 2 times a day.

Check with your doctor and work your way up to the dosage.

Asummers - What dosage of Flagyl and Larium do you take? You can PM me if you prefer to do that rather than post it.

I think I need to add one of these. I'm just enjoying not suffering through meds for once.

cheers

Ok Florastor for anyone else who didn't know (from Wikipedia):

Saccharomyces boulardii (brand name Florastor, among others) is a tropical strain of yeast first isolated from lychee and mangosteen fruit in 1923 by French scientist Henri Boulard.

It is related to, but distinct from, Saccharomyces cerevisiae in several taxonomic, metabolic, and genetic properties.[1] S. boulardii has been shown to maintain and restore the natural flora in the large and small intestine; it is classified as a probiotic.

Boulard first isolated the yeast after he observed natives of Southeast Asia chewing on the skin of lychee and mangosteen in an attempt to control the symptoms of cholera. S. boulardii has been shown to be non-pathogenic, non-systemic

(it remains in the gastrointestinal tract rather than spreading elsewhere in the body), and grows at the unusually high temperature of 37C.[2]

S. boulardii is often marketed as a probiotic in a lyophilized form and is therefore often referred to as Saccharomyces boulardii lyo.

A pharmacist out East said he only fills it for AIDS patients with, I think he said some sort of lung infection. He says they are on it awhile.

I asked about Babs, he had no understanding of that. That flored me, as he lives and works in New Jersey. I asked how he knew his customers had AIDS. He said because he also gives them their AIDS medicine.

I don't get it.

"Building up slow" is not advised and is a good way to make sure you stay stick and build up resistance. Take the full dose if you want to get well. Medication has prescribing information for a reason, and you WANT to be herxing, that is the only way you will get well. The starting dose of Mepron is 2 Tsp./day and it is usually increased to 3-4 doses/day combined with 600-1,200mg Zithromax plus artemesia annua.

Florastor is crucial to be on during your treatment to protect against c.difficile.

WC said... ""Building up slow" is not advised and is a good way to make sure you stay stick and build up resistance. Take the full dose if you want to get well...."

FWIW- Not pickin' on WC, not at all... but like a number of other posts, this is ONLY one person's opinion based on general literature and/or personal experience.

Please remember none of us are medical doctors and no one should take blanket statements as if they were gospel or as if they pertain to everyone.

There are MANY reasons why we are all not given a one-size-fits-all protocol.

What can be helpful or true for one person can serious hurt or even kill another.

Soooooooooo, sick woof woof... and anyone else reading this...

NEVER adjust or change your prescribed medications based on what you read on a chat board and without first checking with your own doctor and pharmacist.

Haley -- Right from the get-go, I think I was giving myself 3 table spoons, twice a day of Mepron.

I seem to tolerate high does of abx really well. My Flagyl is 1000mg a day. I take it in 500mg's twice a day. And the Larium is...every 5 days and I started with a loading dose of 1 pill for 3 days. The dosage on the Larium is 250 mgs.

whoa, guys- that stuff can cause liver damage, especially at high doses. One LLMD who advocates using 2 tsp twice a day says that he won't prescribe it for patients who can't get liver blood tests done every two weeks.

there is a blood test for atovaquone levels- it can tell you if your dose is too low- I think it's mentioned in some of Dr B's writings.

I'm so happy that you are feeling some improvements!

Just in case, I just wanted to mention something that I saw mentioned many many times here over the years:

Please make sure you are using the proper dosing sizes - don't use a regular kitchen spoon, assuming that it is the correct size!

A lot of folks were using silverware to measure their doses for teaspoon or tablespoon amounts.

You need to make sure you have a medically accurate dose size - sometimes the pharmacy will give you a dosing instrument when you purchase your Mepron.

Whatever way you choose, make sure it is an exact measured teaspoon or tablespoon, not the generic spoons in your silverware drawer -they are not accurate and usually much smaller than the true dose size.

I have a highly regarded and very politically active llmd. He's very concerned about safety. I've also had trouble taking crushing doses of things--so much so that I ended up in the hospital once. He has a 90% success rate with his patients. So, I love you guys but I have to have faith that he knows what he's doing. And it's not like he's my first llmd!

I did have a bit of an ooky afternoon today.

To OP, I am so happy for you that you are feeling improvement with Mepron.

I am still waiting. I have heard such good things from others. I am afraid I may have gotten my hopes up too much.

Granted I have only been on it for 2 weeks, but I heard so many say they felt effects immediately.

I also have suffered from depression in the past. I actually had a rock bottom moment a few weeks ago, but thankfully was pulled out of it.

I really hope next week is not start of anything terrible.

Oh I am taking 1 ts 2x day.

Continued good luck to you.

Definitely the mepron. That will knock you out.

Anyone taking mepron ever get like a full feeling in the ears. Kind of your ears are plugged. Not loss of hearing just clogged?

Hi,

I am supposed to start Mepron this week. I have been being treated for 5 yrs and this is the first time with Mepron. My LLMD says to expect to get real sick the first mouth and 2nd month and start feeling better the 3rd mo.

I am almost scared to start it. I am at about 75% better after a year and a half of feeling real bad. He wants me to take Flagel every other day also. Does anyone else take Flagel with Mepron?

I don't normally herx real bad with new drugs.
