i literally burst into tears in the doctor's office. i mean sobbing, and crying, and all.

he said "uh, i think we better do something about your depression." i said "do you think doc?" and he laughed and said "oh yeah, you're depressed."

i said i cry all the time, in the shower, watching tv, no interest in anything, i just want to be left alone.

so he's putting me on lexapro, once a day and i'm to go back in three weeks.

anybody on lexapro or some kind of antidepresant now? can it help with lyme?

I have been taking Lexapro for about 6 months now and I find that it is helpful. The other question you need to ask is what other medications were you on that could be affecting your depression. Some meds that I took at different times affected me so badly that I knew I had to stop them. Just a thought... hope you feel better soon.

My mom takes it, says she feels better in general while on it. New insurance tried to make her switch to a different generic med earlier this year and that didn't work as well for her.

Remember, different people respond to medications differently. If this med doesn't start helping in about 2-4wks f/u with your doctor, you may need to try something else. Just don't give up.

Lexapro made me feel hyper but Paxil - another SSRI - worked wonders. At the moment I am taking some Elavil and it works pretty well also. Hang in there-

My 16yo was diagnosed with depression in the spring of 2009. She has been taking 20mg Lexapro daily. Her depression is gone and she feels great, except for all of the Lyme symptoms.

She was really scared of the depression because it came on so quickly. Looking back now I wonder how much of it was because she has undiagnosed Lyme for 10+ years? Anyway, the long and short of it is that she feels so much better now than she did before getting on it.

As with a lot of her other meds, she is choosing to stay on it while treating Lyme and Co and will look at weaining off it when everything else is under control.

I hope it works well.... something to consider though is that Lexapro is considered a tier 3 drug on our insurance and is very expensive. Her pain doc says that we may want to switch to Celexa because it is the same as Lexapro with a slightly different make-up. I am going to check with her psychiatrist and our insurance and see if Celexa would work, and possibly be less expensive.

Good luck with your new med!
