My stool tested positive for blood. My stomach has been burning and hurting for weeks. I am started H. pylori treatment along with babs, but need help on spacing out Carafate.

I need help with how to take these meds.

Can omeprazole and Carafate be taken at same time of day?

I know Carafate should be taken on empty stomach. How long after taking it before you can eat? I usually snack between meals. How long between eating is your stomach considered empty?

Can I take AM & PM abx same time of day as Carafate? It seems almost impossible to fit it in 4 times a day.

Thanks!

Take the Prilosec 1st thing in the am with any other morning meds that you can take without food.

Wai 30 minutes after taking prilosec to eat and then take your meds with food that you need.

3 hours after the food you can take the carafate.

You could also take the carafate 1 hour after the prilosec in the am bu then you have to wait an hour to eat...so its hard. You cant take the PPI at the same time it will just bind it and not work.

You can eat an hour after taking carafate. and take it again 3 hours later.

WildCondor...

In AM, does Prilosec have to be taken first or can I take Carafate? I could take Carafate and wait 2 hours before taking prilosec. I will discontinue prilosec after treating H. pylori.

Do you know if I can take Prilosec and Carafate and immediately go back to sleep or do I need to stay up for the meds to get through esophagus?

I don't work and have to get up at 6:00 AM now to fit all meds, probiotics, and vitamins in. Hubby gets up at 3:30 Am, so I could take Carafate then, Prilosec at 5:30 and abx at 6:00.

I can't figure the Carafate out. I eat breakfast at 6:00 AM and take abx, lunch at 11:00 AM, early dinner at 3:00 PM and then snack around 8:00 PM. It would probably be better if I could space the doses out 6 hours apart, but it's impossible. Pharmacy directions say Carafate 1 hour before meal or 2 hours after...is this incorrect?

I take probiotics twice a day, abx twice a day, and vitamins. Arrghhhh!

Sorry for all the questions.

Jennie

Just so you know, Carafate contains aluminum. That is a concern regarding neurological effects.

I do recall the near miracle of Carafate when I took it years ago. I wish I had know then what it took me years to find out: DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) worked better for me, and it does not contain aluminum.

That's just great. Now what to do?

I have DGL, but will it heal an ulcer? How many times a day do you take it and when?
