I really need some input.

Our teenage daughter has been treating Lyme/Bart/Erhliciosis,MycoP since May 2009-5/10.

April/2010 stopped Rifampin and started Cipro, anxiety became awful, stopped Cipro.

Waited Until school was out and added Bactrim to replace the Cipro.

So, she was on Mino and Bactrim and supposed to do Tindamax two days a week.

Ten day after starting the Bactrim , anxiety increased and more headaches.

We started the Tindamax and felt dizzy, lightheaded, nausea, etc. Feelings of doom.

About the time she started the Bactrim, noticed that she was mentioning that her throat felt weird.

I felt the throat isssues were from her increased anxiety( the anxiety has been bad since the Cipro) The throat seems to feel worse when anxious.

Mentioned to her LLMD and did not seem concerned.

Couple of weeks ago, her throat felt like it was swelling and hard to get a breath, so I gave her benadryl and helped . So talked with Dr.'s office and stopped Bactrim due to possible sulfa allergy.

We decided to stop all antibiotics and get help for anxiety. Plan on restarting Lyme /Bart treatment soon.

Last couple of weeks since stopping the Mino and Bactrim and Tindamax, she is complaining of air hunger/shortness of breath and the throat issue.

She tested neg for Babs, but we all know how testing goes.

I am wondering if the air hunger and throat issues could be Babs. Maybe the Bactrim stirred it ?

I have looked through many, many posts here in Lymenet and the air hunger seems to be Babs related.

I am also wondering if Erhliciosis or Myco P may cause these symptoms?

She cannot take Doxy, Zith,Cipro, Bactrim and only seems to tolerate 50-100mg of Mino.

Beginning of the month started a new source of Mag and began omega 3's.

Back to 130mg of Mag as three days after increasing to 130mg of Mag twice a day. She began to have diarrhea.

Things seem to backslide since mid June when she started the bactrim / Tindamax.

School starts end of the month. I was hoping that this would be the year she would be able to go back full day.

I guess I am looking for experiences, input, suggestions.

Thanks in advance, Jane

Just wanted to update in case it may help someone else. At least we have an answer for the throat symptoms.

Our daughter's throat symptoms turned out to be from Yeast. Pediatrician and ER doctor would not listen to the idea of yeast. She had feelings of her throat feeling tight, fuzzy, swelling, and then she would get understandably anxious and would feel short of breath.

Went to her ENT and he confirmed yeast.

Sorry to hear she is not making progress.

Tindamax is known for herxing. I rarely herx, but the month I took Tindamax, I had new symptoms pop up.

One of my symptoms has always been air hunger. My first 2 LLMD's did not think I had babs and bart treatment did seem to help it.

Still, I've been on abx for 2 years and my symptoms come back within days of stopping abx. I did 4 or 5 months of bart treatment.

My new LLMD tested me for coinfections and the babs was the only positive. I took Malarone and Ketek for a month, but I'm about to switch to Mepron and Biaxin. It looks like she hasn't had a bad reaction to any of those.

If she hasn't done babs treatment, maybe that would be something to try.

Years ago I took cipro and then another quinolone and they both triggered abrupt anxiety,
fearfulness etc. Now after treating for Lyme, and partially Babesia and Bart I finally got up the courage to try quinolones again, this time with levaquin. This time I have had a much different experience, much improvement and no
burst of overwhelming anxiety etc. So now am wondering if cause of those symptoms for me was die off of sickness causing bacteria. I have Bart, Babs and Lyme Bb and am treating for all 3.
Currently : doxy 200 2x/d, levaquin 500/d, bactrim ds 1 tab 2x/d, artemisinin 300 mg 3X/d.
So I would say, hang in there and do not be too quick to scratch these meds permanently off your list. Just say that for now, they are not working, go with the new meds and keep an open mind. I made progress without levaquin but I am glad I finally gave it another try.

Thanks Beachinit,

I agree, maybe we will revisit Cipro later on.

You described the anxiety on the Cipro exactly.

It is so hard to know exactly how she is feeling as she is a child and not able to explain correctly.

She is scared and wants to feel better.

I agree with jkmom Jane,

Perhaps she should try Babesia therapy. My son had a positive antibody to Babs when he was two. We never treated it and now we are paying for it. Incidentally, when he started the traditional babs therapy he got a positive FISH test. So, maybe if you start that and retest in a few weeks, it may reveal itself.

I know DR. B would go down the line for me. If lyme and Bart therapy wasn't yielding complete improvement then he'd pursue Babs.

Jane, awesome you found this out.

I am concerned about yeast too.

What was recommended to you to do?

Thanks,

Grett
