I'm not talking about brain fog really. I've just noticed that alot of people on here including myself will often feel like we can't remember as quickly or do simple math UPON starting a new abx. I just started plaquenil and it's making me feel like a moron!!! I know this will clear-up with time but I wondered if anyone knows why this happens:
1) Is it because your body is exerting itself fighting and this takes away from your brain power?
2) Is it redistribution of blood flow?
(Just wondering why this happens simultaneously with new abx...what's happening physiologically)

1. die off and toxins that you cannot release fast enough?
2. I have heard that an increase in toxins leads to an increase in ammonia in the system that gives you that not so clear thinking?
Who knows? I know what you are talking about though. Sometimes I wonder what my present IQ is compared to before.

Dumb is an understatement for me. I have been on IV Rifampin and I have never felt so dumb and spaced out.
I would agree with the toxin theory. I can feel the stuff just sitting in my brain. I feel like I should take a day off to see if it gets better.
What do most people do for neurotoxins?

If this happens right after starting a new drug it's likely a herx.

Thanks so much for the responses...makes me feel "not so alone!"...
I wish somewhere some doctor/scientist would actually explain the physiologic response (reaction) that occurs in the brain upon taking some of these meds.....I realize it's a herx but I'd like to have a better understanding of biochemically/physiologically what occurs in the brain....
Ammonia buildup is an interesting theory....
Thanks so much again for responding....
