Hello everyone,
I have continued to gain weight since having Lyme. I'm thinking this is some type of insulin resistance since a lot of it is in my mid section.

Has anyone been able to lose weight by a certain diet?

I've read that the gain is due to possibly yeast, toxins, inflammation, hormones, insulin resistance (which I do have blood sugar issues now). My hormones/thyroid are normal.

Should I just do a yeast diet or an anti inflammatory diet? I know the yeast diet is mainly meat and veggies with no carbs/sugar. What are my other options? I'd like to stabilize the blood sugar and lose weight so I can feel better.

I think thats pretty much the diet of choice-- it handles yeast, inflammation, blood sugar, there isn't really a different one.

There obviously are other types of diets, vegan, vegetarian, raw, but I think low carbs/ meat/ veggies is the way to go.

I think theres a bit of a misconception that no grains, means no carbs.... nuts, fruit, veggies, legumes all have plentiful amounts of carbs.

Whitney is right... you don't have to eleminate all carbs... leave out the grains and eat the items she suggested.

I always lose weight when I'm on a strict anti-yeast diet. It just falls off.

Eat plenty of vegetables and proteins and don't starve yourself. I eat nuts for sure.

I'll bring a link over here for you.

I've had the same problem, within three years I gained 60 lbs!! The first 30 seemed to happen within a few months out of nowhere. My thyroid level was also ok.

Prior to being dx with lyme i tried every diet out there. I would lose a few lbs, but then it would stop, even though I was still sticking to it.

I think I need to try something drastic now, and get rid of all sugar, and gluten.

Diet is a big part of it but the illness in and off itself brings on major weight gain for most no matter how careful they are with their diet.

A smaller percentage lose weight and can't keep weight on.

I thought it was just because I was deconditioned from being sick but I know diet can only help. I just hate these blood sugar issues. If I eat too much I feel really tired only to feel sick later when my blood sugar gets low.

I'm hoping that lean protein, and the veggies you all mentioned will help stabilize my sugar. Can I eat tofu and other non animal sources of protein too?

You're welcome, jadams!

I would suggest eating small meals or mini-meals throughout the day. I rarely go more than 2 hrs without eating something.

www.scdiet.org is a good anti yeast diet. 9 years ago I did it and lost 30# in 6 weeks. Couldn't go off it until after I had my amalgams replaced with composite and I did a year and a half of chelation. A normal TSH does not rule out thyroid dysfunction.
