without crushing the delayed-release yellow pellets containing the Doxy?
Swallowing tablets is impossible for my child--very bad gag reflex--compounding is not an option for Doryx (nor does it come in capsule form).
LLMD said to crush it--pharmacist said can't crush it due to risk of crushing the pellets......LLMD maintains opinion that it is okay to crush--I trust him, but wonder how to go about doing that without risk of losing the benefits of Doryx.
Anyone else have this problem? How did you go about crushing the Doryx without damaging the pellets?
(Prescribing regular release doxy didn't seem to be favorable in LLMD's opinion--wants child to try Doryx)......hoping we can make this work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Can you cut the tablets into smaller pieces that your child might be able to swallow? You can get a pill cutter at the pharmacy for a few bucks. They are nice and sharp and will keep the pieces contained instead of having them scatter and fly across the counter when you try to cut with a knife.
I know those tablets are really large, you could probably cut it into 4ths or 8ths. If your child still cannot swallow them with water try putting each piece in spoon full of pudding, yogurt, sorbet, sherbet, ice cream, whipped cream or apple sauce (something thick and creamy so that your child can't feel the texture of the pill piece). Have them swallow the spoon full without chewing.
The prescribing instructions are pretty clear about not crushing the tablets. If the cutting doesn't work, you could try to call the manufacturer for advice.
Good luck

I called the manufacturer regarding the crushing dilemma. I was told that no tools to cut or crush should be used (so no pill cutters, no knives, no backs of spoons, etc.);
however, they said the pill can be gently crushed into smaller pieces using your fingers--only crush to the bare minimum size needed. I've been doing this, and it seems to work fine--
so for those who need to know this info, there you go.....
(BTW: I recommend using gloves to crush the pills so that the meds don't get absorbed into your skin.)
Hope this helps someone!
