starting thursday i have had another diverticulitis attack. so i had to see the doctor. he gave me cipro/flagyl for my diverticulitis. the first two days no problem, however, the third day, all hell broke loose.
i woke up and could barely get out of bed. every joint in my body hurt so bad i could barely walk. even my hands hurt and fingers.
my shoulders and knees, everywhere. i called the pharmacist and he said stop immediately and call your doctor first thing in the morning.
i am terrified of muscle or tendon damage. it has been about 8 hours and i'm not hurting anymore just sore.
the extreme exhaustion has also passed. i was so weak i could barely stand.
my question is: this was the third day of cipro, so was it a herx or side effect? why did the symptoms go away? will these horrible cramps and pain return?
i am on flagyl twice a day and i have no problems with it, it's the cipro i'm having problems with.
also is there something else that can work? i've read augmentin or amoxy for diverticulitis.
do you feel comfortable suggesting meds to your doctor or do you just let him prescribe what he thinks is best?
could these drugs be effecting the lyme? cause i haven't been on any abx for months.
i swear, if the lyme doesn't get me this diverticulitis will.

that could have been a herx. But you should get in touch with your doc and see what you should do. Bart can really knock you over, in many different ways.

Could be the muscle/tendon thing from the quinolone (cipro).. or it's hitting bart .. or you're just herxing from flagyl since you haven't had any abx lately.
I suspect it's the quinolone side effect. Take care and call your dr on Monday!

My LLMD said cipro and levaquin have some action against Lyme. So taking it together with flagyl, you may be experiencing a herx.
If you would like to try amoxil or augmentin instead, just ask your doctor. Those meds will also hit lyme so you may still herx. At least then you won't worry about tendon side effects.

I had a TERRIBLE herx like that on Levaquin. I called my LLMD and he said that in his experience the tendonitis usually starts in the achilles. Call your doctor on Monday .... but it sounds just like the herx I had .... and the herx for me lasted six weeks. It was very disabling, but then I saw great progress.

Cipro and Levaquin fry my brain, and the effects last a year. It's poison to me.

I got horrible dysuria from cipro. Go to drugs.com. It has all the info on it.
