the buhner herbal protocol used to be resveratrol, cat's claw, and andrographis.

is this still good or has it changed?

Don't know the answer to this - I suppose you could check with www.buhnerhealinglyme.com -

I really like teasel root tincture, one of the herbs he recommends, for taking down joint swelling.

He also likes stephania.

Randi, he usually added astragalus for new infected people and smilax / sarsaparilla in the basic protocol.

http://www.publichealthalert.org/pdf/2010_4.pdf

Now it seems the ORDER and IMPORTANCE of herbs have changed:

Number 1 is Jap. Knotweed
and the other important ones: eleutherococus, cats claw, astragalus (which I took as being a chronic sufferer based on muscle tests and felt great with it).

He personally recommended me astragalus EVERY TIME I got bitten again, which happened almost every year, saying it is not dangerous. Even after sufferign chronic lyme.

It is FOOD in China, eaten by kids, so he said.

Your're welcome.

I think the main change was andrographis. It was part of the main protocol before, now it is OUT. He considers it too strong, or creating side effects.

I did take andrographis, but with it, ended up paralized in hospital. Too big herx, it was massive killing that it did.

He sees people developing rashes, that is why he is not recommending it anymore, if I understood it well.

Another good herb for babesia is cryptolepis. He recommends that a lot after the publication of his book (that has no mention of it).

Even some LLMDs talk about crypto being more efficient than all combinations of drugs they tried for some patients. According to Buhner, crypto is a very large spectrum herbal killer, with little side effects but extremely poweful for babesia.

Crypto was the one he recommended, and it seems lately, he is adding something called sida acuta too (or as solo treatment for babs, I don't know). We got to wait for his new books I suppose?

Brussels,

Actually the sida acuta is the number 1 choice for babesia with cryptolepis as the 2nd choice. Unfortunately both come from Africa I think and Woodland Essence is sold out of both for at least a few more weeks.

Cryptolepis is supposed to work on both babesia and bartonella. It did help hubby when he used it at 3 times the normal dose a couple of years ago, but by itself it was not strong enough to get either infection.

I really wish I thought herbs could cure, but personally I just do not feel they are strong enough for the coinfections. Adding them to antibiotics may work for some people, but some strains of babesia especially seem next to impossible to get rid of.

Hubby only lasted 2 1/2 days off of babs meds this go round. I had to give him a butt shot of phenergan in the midle of the night last night and 1 malarone pill so he could sleep and stop the dry heaves.

Just not sure what to try next at this point.

Bea, thank you for the info on sida acuta!! Has his book been published already or you got the info from other sources?

Sorry to know about your husband's babs... It was the MOST difficult infection for me to get rid of.

Whatever he does for babs, drugs or herbs, it won't be easy, if it didn't disappear yet with normal treatments.

It's NOT the problem with herbs being weak or not, as you can see LOADS of people rotating all sorts of treatments including the most toxic drugs and not seeing their babesia go dormant...

Some I think, are counting the war against babesial symptoms in YEARS, now???!!!

It's unbelievable...

Recently Gigi's husband die of it, uncontroled babesia infection, if I understood well.

You can see opposite stories, of months of battles with babesia with drug combinations only to have it solved with something as simple as crypto.

In my feeling, if you go whatever route, it is the combination and TIMING that will do the trick.

It is a very changing pathogen, and quite smart in my feeling, and if you don't rotate treatment at the EXACT time required for change, the treatment becomes ineficient and symptoms return (or keep their everlasting changing picture).

At least, that was my babesia story. And I have been infected twice with the nasty beast. But my daughter had only minor problems with babesia.... Different immune systems, I suppose?

the only thing that kept me fighting was that it caused me my worst symptoms and I wanted it to go fully dormant! Anything left in my body, meant return of symptoms later. So I kept rotating stuff until the end...

I hope he finds some treatment!!
