I am on my second try of Rifampin. Took 2 doses and this morning I woke with a killer throbbing headache along with all the typical head hurtin symptoms. Eye pain, light sensitivity, scalp/skull neuroy feeling, frontal head pain weird sensations in my body - like a million little fire ants having a party.

About 2 months ago I started getting bad achilles pain (been a runner for 25 years and never ever had achilles problems!), and some bottom of foot discomfort. Was dx'ed with Osteitis Pubis - inflammation in my pelvic bone. Bart?

Anyway, for those who take or have taken Rifampin - did you herx after only 2 doses? I feel terrible and I am hoping that this is a Bart related herx as that is the only thing I have not treated over the past 10 years.

This feels worse then my Chairi headaches!

The herx for rifampin hit me on the 5th day. Everyone is different and yes, I hurt all over with it. I took it easy and in time the herx wasn't constant.

Again, your experience may be different. Usually you take rifampin twice a day. Did your LLMD give you any remedies to help with herxing? I had all the symptoms you described and still do on some days but not all of them anymore. I don't know when the eye sensitivity will go away but other symptoms are much better now.

They took me off rifampin two months ago and substituted Cipro. No idea why my LLMD made the switch.

Is there any chance you have another coinfection? My headaches got better when I treated the Babesia and the Bart at the same time.

Thanks faithful777....

I am suppose to work my way to to twice a day but for the first week only once a day. I am pretty sensitive to meds and typically herx whenever I switch things up a bit.

My LLMD has me taking Glutathione w/ Gold Alka., Zhang Hepa, and of course water with lemon.

I cannot do Cipro due to allergies - does that target BArt as well?

I treated for close to a year for Babesia and stopped treatment a couple of months ago.I was wondering if my on-going head issues were still a Babs issue but I have zero sweats and no fatigue like I use to get with Babesia.

I also treated for Q-Fever which can cause bad headaches as well so I will get my titers check next visit.

I never really considered Bart but these neuro symptoms are the ones that never seem to go completely away and always come back. Never treated for Bart so many this is the missing piece.

My head just feels so wierd - kinda like the arachanoid layer is inflammed and my body feels "gooey"...best way to describe it.

Thanks for feedback! DW

I had to take smaller doses (by that I mean I had to divide out the capsules, pour half the med into an empty capsule) and even then herxed quite a lot on Rifampin. It certainly seemed to be hitting something, though I don't know for sure what. My LLMD says its okay for me to reduce dosages on abx if I need to to avoid severe herxing. I don't know how other LLMD's handle this.

I'll be trying rifampin in January, so this is good to know. Thanks.
