I had surgery on Monday night for broken bones in arm down to fingers. They cut it open open an put pins and wiring in, had PICC pulled as well, ugh.

I stopped abx for surgery. Now just resting and taking multivitamin. Anything else I could be doing to speed up recovery? Or anything to avoid? Besides basics.. Thanks

I was told to keep up probiotics and jus rest. id gladly trade this colon surgery for your arm tho.

no rest at all cause im a side sleeper not back.

also I dont know if they gave you pain meds but they can be constipating. and they give me horrific headaches.

Hey there. I have had numerous surgeries while still having Lyme which involved; posterior fossa neuro/decompression surgery, bovine dura patches, titanium plates and screws in my head. Oh joy..,

I always had iv abx before and during the surgeries. Once home I got back on orals once home from the hospital.

Vitamin C, B, Zinc and a lot of protein seemed to add in my recovery.

Are you on pain meds? Steroids? Stay on top of your probiotics and be careful w/ herbs. I did not start back on herbs till a few weeks post op as to avoid any blood thinning concerns and medication interactions.

Best wishes in a healthy and speedy recovery! DW

Thanks. I haven't been taking probiotics... I will now. I need a break from abx anyway...reassess.

The whole place wanted to know how I got "Lymes" having never been to Connecticut..

No pkillers or steroids. Advil has been my best friend.

Most drs and nurses were rude and incompetent. But I saw people in way worse shape than myself... At least on the outside.

Thanks for advice. I'll heed it all.

Hard to believe how much ignorence therr is after all this time...but we all see it all the time

Yesterday at the dentist i got talking to the xray tech and she toldme she had vertigo. We had not been talking about lyme but i just knew when she said that she had it. Later it came up that i had lyme. I was trying to explain how hard it would be for me tosit in the chair a long time

The she told me she had lyme. She said her primary figured it out but didnt know how to tx so she was sent to ortho and the two docs agreed to give her 200 doxy a day.

I told her lyme docs would consider that too low a dose and she could call me if she wanted more info

Droid...i have been putting off a planned hand surgery for 9 yrs now because i know with so many nerves in the hands it can be a hard surgery. I hope it all works out well and you dont have too much pain

In my great fun history of abdominal surgeries I have learned to drink lots of water to flush out the anesthetic, etc

The other is to be up and around as much as possible...moves the insides around and helps clear your head...

Sunshine.....

Feel better..

I forgot about the water but yes that is important

Also i would really stay away from oxycodone for pain

I learned it was the easiest to become dependent on and really hard to get off

Consider using PEMF to speed healing of bones, skin, muscles.
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy helps injuries and surgeries to heal three to five times faster.

Physical therapy departments should have this.
You can buy the SOTA Magnetic Pulser, which is excellant but not as strong as the professional models.

The magnetic pulses adjust the positive/negative fields on both sides of the injured cells, so that minerals and nutrients can pass through cell wall membranes better.
Waste products exit faster, rather than building up.

This improves circulation, reducing inflammation and pain.
Magnetic energy is known for helping bones to heal faster.

Thanks all...no painkillers. I have ultrams if I really need something. They wrote me a script for oxycodone but I've taken morphine before and it did nothing so I'm assuming that narcotics don't help me. Ultrams and Advil if I need something.

Carol, I looked up PEMF machines and the reviews are great on Amazon. I'm not even casted up yet so I have some time. Could I use that through the cast? And do you have any suggestions on models?(price is sort of important for me)

Try just tylenol and see if that helps.
500 mg will be good for three hours.

If morphine didn't help before, it may be because it was a low dose.

Ultram also targets the opiate receptors, and I found that two tablets helped when one was not strong enough.
Take a tylenol along with the Ultram to potentiate it, help it work better.

Regarding PEMF machines, there are many models available, but I'm familiar with the SOTA Magnetic Pulser.
The professional models are stronger, but also much more expensive.

This is FDA approved.
You should check to see if they still offer a discount for first time orders.

Here is a vendor who makes them himself:
