BUT, you should be on Actigall with Rocephin as it is known to cause gallstones and sludging. I would ask her or your GP to prescribe this for you.

I have been on IV Rocephin for 8 weeks now. I am doing relly well but I have had two attacks of severe abdominal pain that I am pretty sure was gall bladder.
I almost went to the ER the first time, I was in such agony but I drank three large glasses of water (with a slice of lemon) all at once and it subsided (after several hours). The first attack was at about the same stage as you - three weeks.
I had the second attack last week and did the same thing. I feel both attacks came after I ate fat (bacon and eggs the first time and pizza the second) so besides controlling sugar I am now eating next to no fat. It has not returned - good luck.
I know the pain is agonizing but it does seem to settle on the right under the ribs. At first it was so bad I could not tell which side it was on - it seemed to be in my back too. Call your GP if you do not feel better soon.

Somrthing that may help alot is the practice of my son and my Docs while on Rocephin..you could talk to your Doc about taking these precautions..we have had no trouble getting these surveilance measures covered under in-network services through insurance:
1.Monthly sonograms of the biliary tract, reports always compared to previous..that way you will see any sludging coming down the pike, before it becomes a major problem.
2. Weekly surveilance labs (not drawn from PICC, draw from other arm or vein) running CBC's, liver panel, renal..
3. Ask to be prescribed Actigal (Ursodiol)
It is a rather benign script, prescribed by weight, I take 300mgs 2x per day..
LLMD's have found that this is far more effective as a prevention of biliary sludging, than it is a s treatment of gall stones.
Taking these measures will help you relax and are prudent steps when on Rocephin.
I also have invested in keeping us both on a very high quality Milk Thistle blend..
Pharmax (as opposed to Pharmanex..a very good multi-vitamin called Life-Pak is worth taking by them, too..)but Phamax makes something called
Liver Support and Detoxification. It is an excellent product, well worth the money. My son and I have never had pain or problem showing on my sonos..and we are on heavy regimens.
Best,
Mo
