Has anyone used colloidal silver to help treat Lyme?
Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :
I was wondering about that myself. A person in New Zealand said that is what they use over there to treat it.
I then listened to an audio by Dr. B on the different alternative methods to treat lyme.
He mentioned CS and said it didn't work and it was the first thing that most lyme doctor's mentioned when he asked them what other methods do they know of that have been tried and didn't work.
But, on the other hand, he also mentioned the Rife Machine as not being affective although I know that it has been for some here on lymenet.
Just my two cents regarding the matter.
I do know I was taking it while I was still working and before I knew I had lyme.
I felt it did help. I would feel myself coming down with a cold or sore throat...take a few drops in my water everyday and that was the end of the cold.

Why not try doing a search, there has been much talk on this in the past.
From what I understand there are two camps on this and they are world's apart.
I, personally, read enough about Colloidal Silver to NOT do it...but, then you'd have to make that decision for yourself.
I think it is a bad idea with very little good results and much that can go wrong using it. That's what I got out of it.
Seriously, do some research (search key up under Post New Topic) on this...I've read horror stories about folks using it.

Thanks for your input. I have found that there are different kinds of CS, and supposedly the best is a "true silver colloid" that contains 20% or less in silver ions, while 80% are particles, that also have high particle surface area. Due to the low concentration of ionic silver, it does not cause argyia. I've read that the better CS's are brownish, not clear. I'm getting frustrated with my current treatment for the past 2 years, and can't quite seem to get over this last hump in LD.

I think the problem is getting hold of "true" colloidal silver from a reputable source.
I have wanted to try this treatment but have never been able to locate a source I can trust.
Here in the UK, Holland & Barrett now sell their own branded Colloidal Silver - 120ml for 13GBP - which is pretty reasonable I think.
The ingredients are "Purified Water and Silver Protein."
The bottle says that "it is a pure, all natural mineral supplement composed of minute particles of silver that are electromagnetically charged and suspended in purified water."
It is "electroprocessed and chemical free."
I am not sure that "silver protein" is actually silver particles or silver ions for that matter - its a little confusing.
The liquid is colourless with a silver tint.
In any event, I got quite a strong herx from my first 5ml dose. I am going to use it fully when I get some Benicar.
This suggests that this stuff is the real deal and effective in at least some Lymies.

I have been using CS on and off for over a year with no negative side effects. It works better than oral abx for me especially for my heart symptoms and sleep difficulties. When I feel I am having a bit of a relapse I go on it for a month and feel great afterwards. I have to admit I am afraid to stay on it too long because I don't know if it's toxic even though the brand (HTN) claims not to be. I feel it's worth the occasional risk to feel as good as I do afterward.
Hope you find something that works for you.
Feel better,
DawnE

I took CS for over a year. Sometimes I made my own, but that is not a good idea as particle size varies. My favorite brand was "Ionic silver" from a company in Florida. It is effective for migraines, and some other symptoms.
These days I use PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) as in the Doug machine. I have tried just about everything made and that is the most effective electronic device.

A dear friend of mine has used colloidal silver for nearly fourty years, daily. She is now 97 and runs circles around most 30 year olds. She said that if taken in the right doses there are no side effects.
IT binds bacteria in the body (including CNS) and removes it. It also binds spirochetes so they can not reproduce.
I asked her about he cyst form and her explanation seemed reasonable in that the CS wont allow the cyst form to develop because it removes the spirochetes ability to function and go there.
I have heard a few reports of bad side effects, but there is question on HOW much and how long those people did the treatment.
Colloidal silver is used in horses to prevent an illness similar to lyme bacteria, and is very very effective there.

L.M. Sounds like your elderly friend has a source that can be trusted !!! Can you share it with us?

Yeah, she in fact works with a naturopathic physician who does sell this. So I dont know if I can share the details here or not?!?

Colloidal silver worked great to mask the symptoms and make me feel better (and still help carry heavy equipment), but I got the feeling that it wasn't any kind of a cure. I didn't want to take it too long based on stuff I'd read. DaveS .

Thanks Dawn, and everyone for your vaulable input to my questions! I think I found a reliable source for CD called MesoSilver - the studies on the product look pretty good. I found a lot of info at www.silver-colloids.com
Keep up the good work everyone! Joan

Hi Jed - Thanks for your input! I found a website at www.silver-colloids.com that has a good molecular breakdown of the better CDs. I'm leaning towards one called MesoSilver from www.purestcolloids.com - I'll be seeing my Lyme doctor next week and ask him about it. (I'll be bringing all the printout data with me, too!) Take care, Joan

hi Joan
Just read those links.
Looks like the Holland and Barratt Colloidal Silver is not true colloidal silver.
Its the worst kind - silver protein - which causes agyria. Mind you, I think the partcle concentration is so low - 3ppm - that this would not be possible.
I am very disappointed in H&B - trading on their reputatiom.
I think my "herx" could have been a reaction to the gelatin or bacterial contamination.
I will try it again with Benicar - then maybe buy soem MesoSilver.
