As for the weight, I lost 10lbs while sick and was thrilled to get them back. But as a person with a classic babutchka body, which is genetically programmed to survive in Siberia and refuses to lose weight, I find that only yoga works. Also, I need to take a lot of B vitamins and fatty acid supplements, or my body will be wracked with cravings for fattening food.
A duck gave me cortisone before I was properly diagnosed for Lyme - I was very bloated at the time. But as I have began to feel better, I have been able to shed off most of the extra pounds. Keep up the good eating habits!
Ohh, and another thing. I also noticed that when I was taking oral antibiotics, I felt like I was hungry all the time. This being because I actually had heart burn. Most medicines that lymies take will affect the stomach linning, therefore leaving less of a protective cover within the stomach walls. I saw that taking Acidophilus helped me out with this and therefore I stopped confusing hunger with stomach pain.
Hope it helps!
GOOD LUCK!
I have hip pain, and it is sometimes worse with my period. I think it's related to my muscles in my abdomen and lower back tightening that time of month. Stretching those muscles may help.

hi there all, i haven't posted in qiute a while i've been feeling pretty good, i was daignosed with lyme in october last year and have been on antibiotcs, i'm currently on biaxin and plaqenil for the third month now, last summer i was a little overweigt, not bad though probably 10 or 15 lbs over where i should be, well in the beginng iwas very sick and once3 starting meds i ahd a lot of GI symptoms, nausea decreased apppetite, and i lost about 6 to 10 lbs, but since i started getting better, since about december, i've been putting un the lbs, i've gained about 15 lbs give or take a couple of lbs. Ive been exercising as much as i can and watching what i eat, no bread, pasta or surgar, but i can't get the weigt off, anyone experience this? any sugestions anyone? i'm getting pretty frustrated about it, but i'm really glad i'm feeling about 90% better. I also had a question for you women, one of my symptoms that continues is pain in my hips, but i only seem to get it just before and during my periods, every month it is getting a little less intense, do you think it's just a herx? anyone experience this? any input will be greatly appreciated thanx
I work full time and must support my family..my husband is also very ill with Lyme and has not been able to work for 2.5yrs.
I basically was bedridden for 1 week a month for my cycle. I had enough and went to my gyno MD and requested I be put on BC pills so I would NEVER have a cycle. It worked after trying 2 different BC's. However; I have gained 30lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was over a 5 month period of time. I exercise and my diet has not changed as well.
Then my thyroid panel came back way out of wack. I see the MD soon to see what his treatment is going to be.
Hard thing to pin down though is this from latent lyme now hitting my thyroid..or is it from the BC pills and avoiding a cycle all together. the Jury is out ..but will try to get to the bottom of it.
Also my mother has Lyme and she experienced a 30lb weight gain as well. Since then she went on Bicillin LA 1.2mu injections twice weekly for 5 years. She is now back to normal weight and taking oral antbx.
My theory is that the spirochetes are trying to "hide" and survive...their favorite place is FAT CELLS....they have much protection in this lipid based environment.
Keep exercising because the "lyme" hates heat and if you sweat alot and bring your temp up it kills them. Do not overdue it though because if you kill them we will herx.
I would only exercise about 3-4 times a week..every other day pattern.
Hang in there...I have about 4 things I can wear now ...I do not fit into any of my clothes...went from a size 6 to a size 14!!
I really believe the thyroid is the culprit so check it out.
Blessing to you.
I DO NOT recommend what I did - I used Slim Fast. Hi in carbs, sugars, all the things that are bad for us. But I have had little yeast problems, so I decided to give it a shot. It worked well for me (I have a babushka body too!)with no side effects....
I've lost my 'sick weight' as I called it and am working on getting down a bit more - I was a little heavier than I should have been when I got sick. I've pretty much stopped the Slim Fast and just eat small meals, with my lunch being my 'big' meal. I make sure I eat yogurt or drink kefir.
