My oldest is in high school and as you know, teens pretty much mentally 'check out' of school when the weather turns nice. His one teacher noticed it and we spoke.
I've noticed that he is getting flakier - more confused and a serious 'teflon head' - nothin sticks. The fatigue is unrelenting. Probably in the last 4-5 weeks, he's been home in bed sleeping at least once a week. The stomach is more disturbed and he's starting to get headaches again. I know this is stress and lyme and probably a flare. I am counting the minutes until the boys appt next week with Dr. J.
He is absolutely loves school and he is an extremely conscientious student -unfortunately he has to work 2-3 times harder typically to get the work done. His grades do fluctuate but he is holding at about an 80 average. For every day that he misses, it takes him 3-4 days to catch back up again. So more stress, more flares.....
I'm getting nervous about the end of the year exams, and the Regents. He does have options if he doesn't pass the regents, but it's still a scary prospect.
Guess I just needed to hear from any of you parents and get any helpful tips that you might have to deal with this. I'm pretty good at dealing with things calmly but when it's your child, all rationality goes out the window.....My husband and family are great support, so that is a blessing. Momma Bear just needs to be calmed down for now.

I think it's just a combination of things - he's mentally exhausted, and a real teenage moron about getting to bed early, extracurriculars and the lyme. He's been asleep all day so far, woke up a little while ago and said he's still tired and went back to sleep.....
I know the boys are in far better positions than many kids, but the harsh reality of what this disease can do is there. Yesterday at my Dr's appt I watched a Mom carry her child in. The child was like a rag doll, just so weak and I nearly cried. The child was probably around 12 or 13 - God bless that Mom!!!
Just kind of having a bumpy day today worrying about the kids.....I'm not a 'needy' person by nature, but boy I sure could use a few cyberhugs today.

Just remember that things usually work out--eventually. And the good thing is that our children have us to love and support them. Many people going through hard times and suffering alone. That must be the worst.
Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

I know how you feel. I think it is harder worrying about your kids than it is going through it yourself.
My 24 year old also had an equivical result, with lots of symptoms, most of which he had been showing for many years.
While he is not entirely well yet, the first thing he noticed in treatment was a return of his ability to think. That has kept him going through the rest.
Hope your appt with Dr. J goes well, I hear he is the best! If it looks like your son needs treatment, talk to Dr. J about what kind of accomodations can be made at school to help your son maintain his place. These accomodations are required by law, so insist on them.
And big {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}} to you!
Im so sorry to hear about your boys being sick with lyme.
Im not a mother so i can only imagine how difficult it must be for you.
I just wanted to send a hug and to also send you warm wishes.

Sending LOTS of cyberhugs to you!!
So glad you don't have long to wait for Dr Jones to see your boys. He's wonderful!!
We took my grandson to him last month.
Quite a trip....but certainly worth it.
With warmer weather here, I recommend that you be sure the boys drink plenty of water before the appts. Helps a lot with drawing blood for lab work.
I hope your oldest makes it through exams with no problems. So glad the summer is here so he will have a break from school work.
Keep us posted about how y'all are doing.
