I take Mag-Tab SR (Slow Release.) http://www.niche-inc.com/niche/magtab.html

The other kinds of Mag would hit my tummy like a load of bricks and make my booty sad.
The Mag Tab releases it slower bit by bit and gives you a steady level of Mag release throughout the day. Instead of a big load at one time.

Hey Lenny,
I take these as well. How may do you take? My doc recommended 400 mg of mag ox. Sohow does that translate to this type of mag. I am curently taking 2 day....1 in the am and 1 in the pm. Not sure this is enough.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. I just started taking them and I started with one in the morning and one at night.

I wanted to ease on them because the other Mag messed me up so bad I didn't want to risk it. I'm up to three a day now.

I'm gonna go to two AM and two PM soon. Two are suppose to release for 12 hours...I think. So, I think you would at least want to work up to two every 12 hours. But I'm not a Doctor.

But I was wondering if you have to take as much as you do with the other types of Mg because they digest so fast and they are out of your system in about two hours. I haven't seen the Mg queen around here lately, she could set us straight.

This is where I ordered it. I got 100ct for 17.50 or something like that. That's about the same price as direct from Niche. I don't know if they ship international or not.

If Niche doesn't just go to Yahoo Shopping and search for Mag-Tab SR and it will list a bunch of places that sell it. I you can't find it anywhere, there is an 800# on the sit. I'll would call them and ask them.

Hi Everybody,

I have been taking Mag-Tab SR for about a year now. It was instrumental in discovering my infection and, in turn, subsequent treatment and recovery. For many reasons, there is no other oral magnesium worth taking. It is either this one, or injection or I.V. Period.

Mag-Tab SR is magnesium L-lactate dihydrate.

Hat tip to Marnie for her work. : )

The best place to buy this product is.....WalMart Pharmacy. They do not normally stock it, but will order it for you and have it the next day. Their price is reasonable. (Hey, it's Walmart). Please make sure to mention the manufacturer when you call in your order, Niche Pharmaceuticals.

Keep on, keepin' on!

Lyme Wolf,
May I ask how much you take? Do you take the 2 a day or 2 every 12 hours or more?

Bringing this back up because I am confused. I think I recently read from Marnie's post that mag citrate is what we should take?

I want to take the most effective.....Dr. B guidelines say Mag-tab SR....but they are Guidelines and could change with new info.....so which is best and in what amounts?

Thanks,
robi

I take mag glycinate. That was my first supplement when I got so sick and its still my only pain medication. If I dont take it the pain is unmanagable. With it I can cope.

Glycinate wont give you the runs. I take a whopping 1000 mgs per day spaced out 4 times a day with my calcium citrate tabs. Any other form of calcium gives me major gas.

These are relative cheap and effective.

Niche charges $120- for 1000

It seems a little cheaper than 17.50
for 100
which would be $175- for 1000

am I thinking clearly?

I believe that Marnie is currently thinking that 1 ml (teeny tiny amt) every hour X 8

of magnesium citrate (the stuff you buy in a bottle for cheap to clear clogged plumbing)

is the way to go.

remember that if you are taking any of the tetracyclines, they are not to be taken at the same time as Calcium ... so watch what is in the Mag tablets

Marnie,

The bottle of Mg. Citrate I just bought at Wal-Mart states on the directions to discard
unused product within 24 hrs of opening bottle.

Does that mean it's best kept in the fridge? I wouldn't want it to go bad. You said it was good for a month's supply.

Just curious where it's best stored...if it can be stored.

Thanks.

up for Marnie...

This is very interesting. Can you let us know how best it is stored? And, you're right. It does cost only $l.l2 at Wal-Mart.

Thanks so much.

Mg Citrate is the most bio-available form of Mg. There is a powdered form of it that I take it is called Natural Calm by Natural Vitality 4867 Fountain Ave Los Angeles CA 90029 (800) 446-7462 I have no affiliation with this company other than buying their products.
www.naturalcalm.net

What mag. maltate is, is a combination of Mg citrate and Maltic(?) acid to ballance out the + (positive) and - (negitive) charge of what you are taking. However antibiotics are already acidic so you don't need to ballance out the Mg with maltic acid IMO if you are on high doses of abx. Your ph levels are probally way out of wack from the abx and the Mg will help to bring them back into ballance, I would also reccomend Calcium, too but not without the Mg first.

I seperate my Mg by at least two hours from my abx. Some would say this is not needed, I would argue.

Avoid Mg glutamate and Mg aspartate. They contain ingredients that will "excite" the neurons...according to George Eby...author of the great Mg website and developer of zinc lozenges. Smart man!

For example: Glutamate...think MSG...Chinese restaurant syndrome. Monosodium glutamate. Bad news. Added to a lot of foods to enhance the flavor. Read the labels!

Mg malate is good if you are storing aluminum. Malic acid chelates (removes) aluminum.

But...simplified...and CHEAPER!...Magnesium citrate. Citrates also INactivate PFK1 (as does hydrogen).

Tiny doses taken every hour do not cause diarrhea. Pain in the neck to remember every hour, but necessary!

Okay...the basics:

It appears 3 things are critical to healing:

1. Exercise. At the very least, daily walks. If unable, CoQ10 supplements may be needed. Doses in the range of 300 to 500mg daily (spaced!), according Dr. Howenstine. We normally MAKE CoQ10 when we exercise IF we have the ingredients to make it...including B6 which in turn needs additional Mg...

2. Diet. Obviously a vegetarian diet is the ideal (electromagnetically balanced). However, B12 must be supplemented (sublingual) 3x/week. If the person is unwilling to become a vegetarian, proteins should be eaten first to prevent an insulin spike (according to Dr. Perricone).

Finally, a low glycemic index diet is critical. Do not eat/drink anything that will cause an insulin spike (this ACTIVATES PFK). We are trying to regain control of this enzyme, slow down the glycolysis pathway and restore oxidative phosphorylation (using oxygen, not sugar, to make ATP - far healthier and healing).

3. Restoring the levels of magnesium. This won't be easy! The drop is HUGH very fast. In the U.S. we don't typically use IV Mg as a first line of treatment with the exception of status asthmaticus or the toxemia of pregnancy.

The ``type'' of Mg may important. Ideally, we would have access to Mg pyrophosphate (Valletta's patent), but we don't - to my knowledge. If the patient has reached the point where the ``bad metals'' are being stored, then Mg malate might be a good choice, since malic acid chelates aluminum. Mg malate should be taken with a VERY, very small amt. (!) of B6 (sublingual).

According to Valletta's patent, once again, it appears we need to MAINTAIN a slightly high level of Mg in the system for as many hours a day as possible. This means SMALL doses more frequently. At the very least, every 2 hours.

Since citrates also INactivate PFK (as do other things), Mg citrate may be the cheapest, most effective form. It is available OTC as a prep for a lower GI x-ray. The bottles (about $1.12) would last one month at ADULT doses of 1ml each for 8 doses per day. One ml = 58 mg. We could use an insulin syringe (minus the needle!) to measure these small doses.

When spaced out, it does not cause diarrhea. Looser stools may happen, but not diarrhea. This is important because we lose too many electrolytes and fluid when we have diarrhea.

When the bacteria are killed, whether it be from antibiotics reacting with our stored minerals to produce hydrogen, the above plan, or Rife therapy...these all will cause the release of ``toxins''. The outer cell walls of this pathogen contain proteins - chains of amino acids.

When the cell wall is destroyed, this will release the acids into the system and cause a ``herx'' response. Inflammation is triggered...ouch. It is important at those times to pay close attention to alkaline foods or perhaps use selenium to reduce, not eliminate completely, the pro inflammatory cytokine,TNF alpha.

In addition, it appears activated charcoal may help to absorb some of the toxins, reducing the load. If the system remains acidic, healthy cells can be damaged and additional minerals may be pulled out of storage to compensate also. Besides, Bb seems to ``dive for cover'' in the presence of acids.

Keep in mind, the body heals SLOWLY. Time, nature and patience...the three great healers.

This infection depletes our magnesium level, a LOT and fast (according to the Romanian abstract). Restore the balance to heal. Otherwise, this will downward spiral out of control and cause the eventual depletion of other electrolytes/minerals and vitamins.

Some facts (all documented) you need to be aware of:

Antibiotics:

1. Deplete (further) the minerals and vitamins
2. Modulate (change) our immune system response. I believe our body choses the best pathway and altering it may cause problems.
3. Destroy the friendly bacteria in our bowels which make many (acidic) vitamins for us as well as protect us from yeast problems.

You will have to take a lot of supplements to rebalance what happens above. Which ones, how often, how much...adds to the confusion and complexity.

Years ago, the "Universal remedy" was: Mg oxide, tannic acid and activated charcoal. We mess up tannic acid when we try to make it, but there are many healthy foods that contain tannins. Mg oxide is cheap, but often causes diarrhea probs. Activated charcoal is avail. OTC.

If you're rich, Mg citrate is avail. as troches (lozenges) in 58mg for $1.00 each. You need a Rx (why?)and people are purchasing them by the hundreds for other diseases. It's a new thing. There is a compounding pharmacy in PA making them. Still...at $8 a day...when a bottle costs $1.12 for a month supply...?

Might be a good idea to refrig. the bottle. Meanwhile, I will try to contact the maker to determine why they say to discard after opening. Doesn't make sense. What germ is going to want a citrate?

I will call: Toll-Free: (800) 626-SWAN(7926) tomorrow since today is Sunday.

Personally, it has seemed to work for me for several days now. Looser stools, yes, but not diarrhea.

Marnie what about the powdered form of Mag citrate??? all I do is add water and stir. Still not as cheap as the liquid stuff but a lot longer shelf life.
