My llmd has me on Zithromax and Tinidazole. She says that Zith will kill the bart. But I've never seen anything about that on this forum.

Any body know for sure?

There are a lot of combos to treat bart, but zith and flagyl is not one I'm familiar with -- that's not to say it's not right. There's a discussion of flagyl and Bart at http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021229.html

The treatments I know of are a macrolide (like zith) and septra; or levaquin in combo with doxy or minocycline; or rifampin and doxycycline; or zith and doxy. There was also a recent recommendation at one of the LD conferences to include a proton pump inhibitor like Nexium or Prilosec along with the abx.

Thanks minoucat and cave-

I think I'll give the Zith a try for a while. I'm also in a ton of pain--which I usually don't have. Never thought it might be the Zith....

kess, zith alone will NOT treat bartonella . YOu need to combine it with either a quinoline like cipro or levoquin, or with rifampin to hit the bart.

you can also take it with septra ds to effectivley hit the bart..however, all alone you aren't even doing much to hit lyme...you need a combo of meds to even do that...if you take zithro with plaquenil you can get the zithro intracellular or into the cells better to kill the spirochetes... the flagyl is a cyst buster, but will not get to the bartonella either...

so to answer your question..no, zithro and flagyl alone won't do anything to eliminate the bartonella accordign to the well known llmds adn their research.
