I just got back from a vacation. I decided to have a one glass of wine and a piece of bread with dinner.

I have been on diflucan for one week and thought my yeast was under control. The next morning i felt like i was getting a yeast infection.

Can ONE glass of wine cause this kind of reaction? I had to call my doctor from NY to get some more diflucan. Now, im feeling better again.

Anyone have any thoughts?

This is so frustrating.

Red or white? Red contains tannins (tannic acid - very strong acid!) + alcohol -> sugar = die off. Together they make hydrogen which INactivates PFK..an enzyme that Bb is dependent on.

White...bad.

Think about WHY they say ONE glass of a dark red wine is healthy...and too much is not...

Bread...? ;-(

Head for the South Beach diet..which incidentally, DOES allow ONE glass of RED wine after a few weeks.

To date...this is the healthiest diet...except for a true vegetarian diet (exception: B12 must be supp. about 3x per week sublingual)

If on abx. MUST be using probiotics!!! MUST. Abx. destroy the "friendly bacteria" in our bowels which MAKE for us...many vitamins!

A quick internet search "diflucan alcohol" led to this:
"Use alcohol with moderation while taking Diflucan. Alcohol and Diflucan can both affect your liver."

Your liver stores Mg and glycogen...2 of Bb's fav. foods. Your liver is a 4# "detox" organ...contains ++ charges to counter the -- charges of the toxins.

I had red wine.

I am taking probiotics.

Maybe, it was a combo of the bread and wine? The bread was some kind of dark bread so it wasnt white.

Thanks,

The diflucan is not really helping. I mean im not getting worse, but its not too much better either.

Is it me or do things always go wrong on holidays or weekends when you cant see your doctor.

I skipped my morning doxycycline hoping that might help getting my yeast under control. Maybe i should stop my ABX all together. I need to call my doctors (LLMD and gynocologist) tomorrow.

I have taken garlic and my refrigerated probiotic which contains 20 billion acdidophilus in 2 tbls.

I really dont know what else to do.

I didnt mention earlier that i also had part of a baked potato.

OOPS! Potatoes turn into sugar more easily than even white bread! And I would say that one glass of wine could set off the yeast....at least it could in me!

One day of skipping abx won't help much. I would suggest getting really strict with your diet for the next three weeks to get the yeast under control.

Then you can ease up and eat more normally once you've got the yeast beaten down.

When I got my diagnoses of LD, I didn't cry as much about that as I did over the fact that I knew I couldn't have ANY bread or starch anymore . . . Wahhh! I had already eliminated ANY alchohol because my body told me like your body is telling you.

Today, over 2 years after treatment I am able to cheat here and there. Keep in mind I did NOT have a yeast problem yet it was pounded into my head how important a lyme diet was. NO sugar, NO yeast.

Good luck, it's hard but is worth it.

Lymetoo:

Hmmm i didnt think the potato could be the most damaging. Im not really sure whats going on. I called my GYN and im going to see him tomorrow. The diflucan helped right away and then, after THAT one night, the diflucan is not really working i have now been on it for 10 days.

I took my morning doxy. If you dont think it will make that much of a difference, i may as well keep taking it.

Curley:

I am the pasta, bread, red wine, pizza, potato queen. All of my friends are freaking out when i tell them that i cant eat that anymore. And you are right, it really sucks.

I see that we can eat brown rice. So, if i wanted to eat sushi, would it be ok if they made the rolls with brown rice? I think i read that soy sauce is OK.

Thanks,

Jordan

Jordan,

If you have a yeast problem, then the glass of wine could add to it. But, if you are pretty much under control, then one glass wouldn't do much. Honestly, I doubt it could make a severe impact over the long run.

As far as the Diflucan working, you will herx if it is killing yeast. This could even be part of what you thought was the start of a yeast infection. I find I'm really fatigued when yeast is dieing in my system.

I do not think the soy sauce is ok. You may want to double check.

Well, I think I have the same problem, I just went on antibiotics last week, and this long weekend had approx. 4 beers and the next day I get a yeast infection. My doctor told me I could eat or drink anything, maybe he wasn't accurate, now waiting for him to call me back so he can prescribe something. Did you get a prescription to relieve the yeast infection?

Aniek:

Im not sure whats wrong. I went to the urologist to see if i had a UTI and my urine was negative.

Im going to my GYN tomorrow a.m. to get checked out for yeast. There has to be some reason for burning.

Also, i am very tired and weak. But, that is not too uncommon for me these days.

I must say though, that the pain in my knees, elbows and chest have GONE AWAY in just 3 weeks on doxy.

I cant wait to get all my tests back. If i do have lyme for sure, i have decided to go see a nutrionist for help with my diet.

Stacy:

You are right about the soy sauce. I just looked it up. Oy! Im doing everything wrong.

Thanks for writing!

Mamma:

Yes, my doctor phones in diflucan. Its much better than Monistat.

I hope you had a great weekend.

Do a search for "yeast" and you will find tons of information.

Good luck to you!
