Just started the 400mg a day regime. Becaue of my trip to the ER a couple od weeks ago I searched out doxy side effects and found this:

Sort of scary. Wondering if I just can't handle the stuff.

I did 9 months of doxy back in 1999, and I loved it...easy as pie. Don't let long lists of side effects sacre you. But, DO wear tons of sunscreen...I used to have beautiful skin and now I'm thinking laser treatments!

Good luck!

Bri,

Take it easy! Go slowly. See your doctor about extending time interval between doses, increasing incrementally, but slowly.

If you are taking any herbs like gingko,or other medicines, prescribed, or OTC, that increase circulation in the brain, these will increase the doxycycline-induced pressure in the head(increased intracranial pressure), send you back to the E.R., stroke, or o/w do "night-night."

Good Luck,

dq

Thanks for that! I've reconsidered and much to the dismay of my ex girlfriend and my lld, I am going to start with 200mg for a few days or so. if I can tolerate it I will up it to 300mg again. I'm only sic weeks out from the bite and I had been treating at 300 for 11 days with a short break, during which I had three colloidal silver IV treatments. Now i'm back on the doxy for two months. Hopefully the silver knocked down the bugs to the point where I can at least start doxy again.

Will keep you posted

Bridude:

I just wanted to say that i have been taking 400mg of doxy for almost 4 weeks.

The only problems i have had is that i tend to have nausea in the mornings. So i try to eat a little something and i drink a lot of water before i take it.

Good luck,

Jordan

When I was first on abx, I tried 400mg a day of doxy for just a few days...the spirochetes moved like waves through my muscles and it actually scared me. I decreased to 300mg a day with no problem for 2 months...

Now it is possible to be severly allergic (life threatening to Doxy). I am. Toradol and Doxy.

On the sunscreen issue, you may want to get a sunscreen that meets Austrialian Standards. Their standards are much higher than ours. I recommend blue lizard. You can get it at

I'm now on my 6th day of 300mg of Doxy.

So far my only problem is nausea that wakes me in the middle of the night, even though I eat last thing at night with my meds. And, am also experiencing stomach aches during the day.

I was on Doxy, 400 mg per day (200 mg twice a day) for almost 3 months.

After the morning dose started making me nausious I started eating a little something 30 minutes before each dose. This helped tremendously.
But, avoid eating anything with magnesium, calcium or aluminum for 2-3 hours before and after Doxy.

Do Not Lay down for 30 minutes to and hour after a dose of Doxy.

Also, eating often and just before bedtime seemed to help reduce my stomach problems.

Experiment and keep good daily records to find what works best for you.

Good Luck,
Dave

Bri,

I think you mentioned colloidal silver, if I'm not mistaken. As this is a mineral, and the tetracycline class of antibiotics bind metals(minerals), it may be wise to hold off on the silver until after the doxycycline regimen? E.g.: Oral doxy to blood stream, then one does either oral or sublingual colloidal silver which goes to blood stream ==> tetracycline class of abx snatching the silver thereby rendering both useless, perhaps? Who knows? Rhet. Quest.
