I was wondering if any of you would know off hand of a good study and the link to it that would show plainly that despite 4 weeks of antibiotics....there can still be active infection? Even autopsy stuff would be good
Also....is there a quote somwhere that says that Lyme is the fastest spreading infectious disease?

This is from our own government,the CDC.Go to the CDC web site and go to questions and answers,when you get there look under -how is lyme disease treated.It say later disease may require IV treatment for 4 weeks or MORE,depending on disease severity.It then says treatment failure may occur and RETREATMENT MAY BE NECESSARY.

One the CDC.gov website on Lyme Disease, I found this quote: "Lyme disease is caused by infection with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and is the most commonly reported vectorborne disease in the United States."
The above statement was in the very first of an abstract, titled, Surveillance for Lyme Disease --- United States, 1992--1998
Thankyou everyone...very helpful. I am also looking for the statement by the CDC that says blatantly outright that the CDC criteria should not be used for diagnosis but just for surveillance purposes. I called the CDC yesterday to find out where this info is posted and to find out what has been done about notifying doctors, labs and health departments concerning this issue. Our Hearing in CT partially focused on telling the CDC they should send out some sort of warning becasue it is this factor ...there are others too of course....that is preventing many from being diagnosed and treated

oops...I forgot to say that the CDC lady said that the CDC wrote an article in some morbidity magazine on their website which states somewhere that CDC criteria is only to be used for surveillance. She siad she would e-mail be the direct link. She didn't . I tried finding it and couldn't. Something about being in the first issue in May of this year

I have the video of the ct lyme hearings. Dr. P sited studies which gave evidence to active infections in people who had neg test results, but presented symptoms.
I bet if you called his office and left a message with the secretary with your request, he would give you that info.
Also, you probably have checked out the ilads site....but if not....there's info there as well. ilads.org
We need to plaster the answers to your questions in prominant places. TOO MANY PEOPLE are STILL going undiagnosed, and if lucky to get a diagnosis, are NOT being treated adequately.

Get a copy of the Public Law that states that the antibody tests are not to be used to a diagnosis. I think it is public law 106--117 signed by the Pres. in 2002.

I feel that this issue is of the most vital importance. I was on the committee that helped organize the CT Hearing. Attorney General Blumenthal strongly advised the CDC...(after much pressure to even get them to attend) that they send out warnings or notices to all health related agencies , doctors , etc....NOT to use the CDC criteria. I am almost finished with an article I want to post on the internet. Much of it I've said before but this one is directed more towards the doctors especially concerning this specific issue. Thanks for the help and any more ideas are appreciated

If you check out the ilads website, there are a few articles there refuting the bumsteere studies re:short term abx....
also check out lyme alliance - there's a good search engine for articles there....one of those sites also has Dr. B's classic article.... cootiegirl
