The CDC says it's not, but my llmd says it can be. Doc says my husband should wear a condom, so as not to pass it back and forth. Oh great......had a vasectomy at age 30, and has to wear condoms at 45? This really bites.
Any words of wisdom on this?

My theory is better to err on the side of caution. Until it is proven otherwise.
My husband is in the same boat as yours.

Yes it is sexually transmitted. I speak from experience since I got Lyme from my husband this past February. He was bit by a tick June 03, and was treated for 6 months. Since I was 6 months pregnant at the time we were not sexually active until at least 3 months after his treatment ended and he was symptom free. Well long story short, he also had babesia, which he first tested negative at MDL, but recently tested postive through Bowen. His lyme symptoms came back just about the time I started to experience lyme symptoms too. I tested positive at Bowen and had a few pos bands on the WB at Igenex.
We are now both on Mepron, Zith, and pulsing tinidazole.
We use protection. Hopefully if this blasted thing ever goes away we won't have to at some point.

The bacteria is a spirochete. There are STD's that have the same composition as bb, therefore it is thought that Lyme is sexually transmitted too.
Better safe than sorry!
Take care!

aka - This just may be your doc, but in any case, he has a segment on KTVU (channel 2) website where he talks abt this subj. If your computer is fast enough you can watch it online.
My husband was tested by my LLMD, even though he was symptom free, and his WB was highly positive. We don't camp, and are sure he had not been bitten by a tick. After six months of Ceftin and Flagyl, his WB was almost neg., and we haven't had him retested since....with myself and two children with lyme, we have enought on our plate! In the meantime, we use condoms, and he hates it...too bad!!! haha

The CDC has, in the past, listed lyme disease as an STD. They may have changed their current stance but I thought it was still listed as an STD. I KNOW the state of NY came out and said it is an STD.

I wouldnt get too upset- do you potentially want to take the chance *potentially* of him reinfecting you over and over?
I wouldnt. Which is why I stopped sleeping with my fiance when I *was* engaged. It was more important to him to uh *knock his socks off* than to NOT reinfect me. Personally, I didn't give a rats hoot if I gave it to him since he obviously didnt care about wearing condoms
but I surely cared about him giving it back to ME!
Dr. B in PA also has stated that sometimes, the reason for treatment failure is due to this.
