Hi all,

Quick question... I've been on doxy for a while and I have been getting MANY more pimples/acne on my face and shoulders. I thought abx were supposed to help acne not make it worse? Anyone else get this?

Cheers,

{R}

My husband is having the same problem with doxy but we don't know why. Our MD said he prescribed it all the time to fight acne.

Hopefully someone else has an answer for us.

This is definately a good place to come for answers!

Every abx I've been on over the past two years has made me break out in a different place.

I mentioned this to my LLMD, but all I got was a "hmmh" from him.

My hypothesis: the dead bacteria has to leave somehow and it's coming through my skin.

Hoping I'm nearing the end of this because I have FINALLY quit breaking out. It has left me with a ruddy complexion, but the pain is mostly gone too, so it's worth it.

I just tried to keep my skin as clean as possible and not clog the pores with make-up etc. The bacteria leaving is a good thing!

Best wishes,
Nancy

ME TOO!!!! tetracyclines are used specifically for acne treatment - it is soooo frustrating.

I don't have black/white heads, rather bumps - the size of pimples - filled with water. I used to get them occaisionally pre-lyme but not like this.

I tried oxy (benxoyl peroxide) but that makes my entire face dry and rashy looking.

I know it is not a reaction to the meds, because I have had rashes from abx before - this is not it...

I told my doc and we both kind of chuckled with the response that my complexion should be great!!

Do you happen to be female? I notice that it gets worse premenstrally - i.e. the week before, during and after (as it heals).

I am going for a facial next week and the estethician may have some ideas - I'll post after the appointment.

i used to get these too when i was tetracycline and biaxin combo, except they weren't like pimples more like vesicles filled with clear fluid and i would get them on my face chest arms and thighs, my llmd said it was part of the herxing and keets dying, he said it was common, hope this helps

I found i broke out with a rash like pimples started behind my ears and went on my cheeks and forhead. Then it broke out near my knees bettween my legs it itched the doctor gave me some cream and it went away. I dont know if its a fungus or lyme or what but one dose of the cream seemed to do the trick. I still get those pimply type spots tho here and there on me and my face. Some have stuff in some are just bumps.

I think that the acne could be a result of candida, rather than a Lyme symptom. Since treating the candida very aggressively (Oregacyn 4 caps/2X per day + Lamisil) the acne is beginning to clear up. Yeast overgrowth happens over time and can cause many symptoms that you'd never associate with yeast.

I could be due to yeast, at least in my case that is what caused all my acne problems while on orals. Killing all the yeast helped and using a good acidoliphus helps too.

I think I asked that same question on here a few months ago! Yes, I had it very bad on Doxy. Funny thing is it lasted a few months then went away on its own.
