The good news is, I put some pressure on them and they refunded my money for the partially used bottle AND the unused bottle. The bad news is, after over three weeks off the mepron, my vision has only partially cleared.
Lastly, if this is such a rare occurance, why did I just meet a stranger at my doctor's office who had the same adverse event?! Anybody else have this unnerving experience? And what a drag,as its supposed to be one of the best ways to deal with babs.
I believe it is unlawful for a physician not to report a drug reaction to the FDA.
If your vision doesn't clear with time, then you have grounds for a product liability lawsuit. Permanent damage is one of the criteria used to determine if a case has merit.
GlaxoSmithKline just admitted guilt when they refunded your money. I know you really want your vision back.
Here are some ideas you might want to research or talk with others about:
When I think of pulling toxins/chemicals out of the body, I think of EDTA (amino acids)chelation IV therapy. I've had about 20 of them. The physician said to his surprise some of his patients who came weekly eventually noticed a change for the good in their vision. \
This means the chelating agent, EDTA, opened up the micro-circulation in the eye by removing inorganic calcium & other heavy metals & vision improved.
Yes, this is probably a "way-out" idea, but you have to start somewhere in thinking how to cleanse the body.
If you can get more circulation to the eyes-----not an easy task-----perhaps it would improve. Gingko Biloba increases circulation as does No-Flush Niacin 500 mg
(vaso-dilator) by Solaray.
Also, Taurine amino acid capsules is good for the eye & a great detoxifier. (You can take this with Vit. C & B6 to activate amino acids.)
What about sulphur in the form of the amino acid, NAC (N-Acetyl Cyteine) capsules by Country Life? It detoxifies the body/liver.
Also, liquid chlorophyl by Nature's Sunshine pulls meds out of the liver; has a high magnesium content.
Perhaps, GIGI or Marnie will stop by & offer some good advice.
I really wish I coud help you. I'm on my 3rd bottle of Mepron & it pretty much makes me brain dead.
Don't give up on the Babesia. Do a search on this board & maybe you'll find some really good substitutes to rid your Babesia.
Try Dr. Zhang's website & perhaps others will stop by soon.
Don't give up.
Take Care,

This may really take the cake, but here goes:
Thought of one other important thing that might help. Mepron (oxidizing agent) is an analogue to COQ-10 (antioxidant).
[They're structurally the same, but with a molecule or radical replaced by one of the same valence/charge.]
Talk to your LLMD or LLND and see if taking a good brand of COQ-10 might reverse the Mepron process. COQ-10 is ubiquitous------- it's in every cell of the body.
You're not suppose to take CoQ10 with Mepron, so this might be a fix for you----just a thought.
Try to get a good brand from the health food store. The liquid-softgel is supposed to be the most powerful (Twinlab?). And of course, take with fatty food to enhance absorption.
My pain doctor uses this brand, Pure Encapsulations, for his patients, but it can only be ordered by physicians.
It's extremely expensive at $129 bottle for #60, 500 mg capsules. You would need to start slow with this brand because it will either cause die-off or give you super energy------it's so strong. But to me, your eyes are worth it---if it were indeed a solution.
(My husband takes 1/3 capsule at a time.) Unbelievably, the bottle says take 2 capsules daily with food. I'd be scared to do that. It would put me on the couch for a week.
Here's the info:

I finally got into this website & it has a good FAQ site & health library, etc.
A second thought is Vitamin A. If the Indians had problems with their eyes they would eat a fish eye/vitamin A.
No really, I use Vit. A (solubilized) 10,000 IU #100 softgels by Carlson for $7. Don't get the beta-carotene form of Vit. A because your body has to be able to convert it to Vitamin A.
You probably already know all this, but vitamin A is stored in the liver, so go easy on it because our livers are under such assault as it is.
You might want to add 200 to 400 IU of natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) to prevent rancidity of the Vit. A.
For the record, Vit. A is also an anti-infective. Healthy folks can take higher doses, but it's better to err on the side of caution when it comes to LD.
Anyway, you probably already do all these supplements, but I especially wanted to see what you & your DOC thought about trying CoQ10 for a while.
Listen, I was undiagnosed with Lyme for at least 13 years; so I consider myself a real guinea pig in finding solutions. I was already half-dead, so what the heck. I'm improving now though. Sorry to drone on.

I took mepron for three or four rounds last summer.
The same thing happenened to my vision. It kind of freaked me out, actually.
When I spoke to my doctor, he said that it's a side affect of the mepron and that my vision would return to normal in time...
and it did.
It was an annoying side effect, but not disabling, for me, at least.
He did not discontinue the mepron, I guess, because I REALLY needed to get rid of the babesia.
Hope this helps.

I call this Mepron reaction "Shrek Vision", because it puts a green wash over your vision. I think it's quite common.
It freaked me out the first time, so I went to an eye doctor and paid $200 for her to look up the same Googled article I already had in my file. The Dr. said, "Yeah, some people get green vision."
My philosophy is that I can live with temporary Shrek Vision because it zapped my brain fog. And the alternatives (like Quinine) have a lot worse side effects (like hearing loss).
Death to hemoglobin-sucking parasites!

"Problems during therapy include diarrhea, mild nausea, the expense of atovaquone (over $600.00 per bottle -- enough for three weeks of treatment), and ****rarely, a temporary yellowish discoloration of the vision. ***"
Hope it goes away soon
take care
