There was an article recently questioning the safety of Vioxx. I intend to ask my LLMD at our next visit.

Has anyone been advised not to take it due to these issues?

I had anxiety dreams every night and extreme fatigue on Vioxx. These aren't mentioned as side effects. But, when I was on Vioxx, I went to my GP thinking I had chronic fatigue or something. Within days of stopping Vioxx, the dreams stopped and I wasn't as fatigued.

When I first had wrist pain, a Dr. prescribed Vioxx for me. He claimed the side effects are very rare, and that part of the increased risk of heart attack is that people are switching from aspirin to Vioxx. So it's not that Vioxx is causing harm, but that people lose the benefit of aspirin.

He also told me all I had was tendinitis, and that my upper back and neck pain would go away when my wrists healed. Months later he told me I had to change careers (meaning not use a computer!) in order to help my wrists. So I don't fully trust him.

Is there a safer NSAID that's more effective than Naprox or Ibupro? Bextra?

NSAID's gave me stomach ulcers.
I also think that it suppressed my immune system, allowing the borrelia to multiply.

It also did nothing to cure my problems. All it did was cover up the pain, and when they wore off, it caused a back-lash affect on my body, and making my symptoms worse, not better.

I was on Vioxx and not for long either and ended up in hospital with severe muscle spasms in esphogus, and they thought I had a heart attack.

Also, celebrx, I know people who developed ulcers from this and high blood pressure.

Vioxx helped my joint pain tremendously but i developed premature atrial contractions (PAC's) according to a holter monitor.

It was a little scarey having my heart have all those extra beats even though they were not dangerous, according to the cardiologist. As soon as I stopped taking Vioxx, they stopped.

I now take Celebrex and don't have any problems. My husband takes Vioxx and has no apparent side effects from it.
