Hi all,

Hope you are all doing well and kicking keet butt. I was off doxy for about six-weeks and started going downhill so I'm now trying mino, on the 7th day now. This stuff certainly packs a punch! I'm started at 100mg/day and I'm now on 150mg... my doc would like me to go to 200mg but I'm a bit scared to go any higher! At the moment I have a dull all-over headache, I call it 'septic head', I feel groggy and confused and tired. I also have a nice aching neck and pains running down my back. I don't think I ever really herxed at all on the doxy... how do I know whether it's a herx or whether it's just a reaction to the drug itself? Anyone else care to share their insights with this drug?

Take care,

Colin.

Could stay only 11 days on Mino. Then I got a headache from hell and my doc told me to stop it immediately.

There is a side effect called "pseudotumor cerebri" which can become very serious. Strong headache is a warning signal.

The groggyness, confusion and tiredness sounds more like a herx to me, though.

Take care.

Could well be a "herx".
If it lasts more than a week without starting to let up, I'd say, try something else. I never had mino.
For me Doxy and ceftin (400/500 or 1000/day) helped alot but was hard on the gut. I found yarrow tea (1 heaping tsp dried yarrow steeped 5 min in 1 cup water) VERY helpful for GI distress.
Clarithromycin with amoxycillin was good for the lyme, and not as harsh on the gut. But it didn't get ehrlichia completely, so had to go to doxy with clarithromycin for awhile, which wasn't too bad, actually.
Gingko may be helpful for the headaches. ( 'ginkgold' or 'ginkoba' are good 'brands').

I did mino a year ago at 400mg/day, and started again a week ago at 100mg/day. The herx both times was so awful that I recently started doing 20mg/twice a day by opening the capsules and pouring the powder into empty gel caps. Mino causes herxes for everyone, sometimes to the point where people cannot walk for a month.

So far (not to jinx it or anything) I have not herxed, but have seen one of my worst neurological Lyme relapses in some time gradually disappear, after I'd thrown omnicef, zithromax, plaquenil, and flagyl at it with no change.

If you do a search on this subject, especially for posts by TX Lyme Mom, Chainsaw Joe and Lymebrat, you will see that this abx has helped a lot of people who were dealing with "hopeless cases" that had gone on for decades. Many are not here anymore.
