Hello to all, I was wondering if there is a place to search or find out about doxycycline dosing? The ID doctor I went to gave me 200mg/day for 3 weeks and asked me to come back. So okay I did that, finished the 3 weeks and when I returned she said I still had the symptoms but it had to be something else and the lyme is gone based on the 3-week protocol. I yessed her to death since I knew she would not understand. I have an appt with a lyme disease doctor at the end of November sometime and need to get by so i bought some online but don't know where to read about how much for lyme. 400mg a day....(200mg in the AM, 200mg in the PM)...is what I was on. It can be a bit rocky on the gut though, so take it with food and remember probiotics between dosings to keep the natural flora and fauna up in the gut.
When the 400mgs became intolerable, I went back to 200mg a day in split doses, until I could have an apt with my lyme doc. We changed medications after that.

200mgms of Doxy is bactriostatic, 400mgms in divided doses, 200mgms with breakfast and 200mgms with dinner (or supper, whatever you want to call it), is Bacteriocidal and will kill any Borrelia coming into the blood stream. Unfortunately, it cannot do anything to those pathogens that hide in tissue where the Abx cannot reach, but it does give them a warning not to come out to play to cause increased symptoms.

Per the experience of hundreds and hundreds of posters here who have see ID ducks in the past...an ID doctor is one of the LAST docs you should be seeing for the correct treatment of LD.
Is the Lyme doctor you are going to see in November recommended by someone here or is it just someone who says that they treat Lyme? There is a big difference in LLMDs (Lyme Literate Medical Doctors) and those that say they treat LD...big difference.

thanks to all who are helping me here. i work for an ID doctor, but we work in vaccine research, so he's not a practicing doctor, even though he normally diagnoses and prescribes for me. he was out of the country when i told him about the bulls eye thing and he sent me to this id lady. she was extremely full of herself and pompous. the problem is that i have had all the symptoms for over a year, i was bit one year ago, i live in the total woods in northern nj. sooooo, i asked on this site for a doctor that specializes in lyme disease and thankfully i was guided. i hope to see him in november but he doesn't take insurance and he's ~ 450 for first appt. + bloods, then 550 second appt. and so on, so i'm not sure i'll really be able to go unless something really good financially happens to me. so i bought the doxy online, screw it, i have to feel somewhat better to work. because i have mcs too, they already make concessions for me, if i tell them i have lyme, they'll fall over backwards. folks just don't understand. thanks bunches romy

Sorry to say, but for most of us prior to diagnosis, Lyme is a "do it yourself" disease.

Many of us have gotten doxycycline and minocycline from dermatologists, though of course this was only by coincidence, as a result of treating acne. Mino will work for you at 100mg/day, but you need to ramp up slowly to avoid a severe herx.
Someone on the board recently suggested bromelain as a natural anti-inflammatory that helps control herxes.
There are some great LLMDs who will do long-distance phone sessions with you. You may have to shell out for the occasional office visit, especially in the beginning, but then you can switch over to phone. My LLMD charges $95 per 15 minutes, and then continues to charge for each additional five minutes, I think. Call up the usual suspects and see if one works for you.
