Were any of you on homeopathics told not
to ingest mint, cinnamon, etc. while on
it? Those on Samento, what are you using
for toothpaste?

Hi-

I haven't taken homeopathics for Lyme but I do know a little about them in general.

Typically strong scented foods and other items like mint and cinnamon are thought to antidote the homeopathic (no matter what kind it is).

My understanding is that, if necessary, its okay to use those strong scented items as long as they are separated by a substantial time period from taking the homeopathic.

So I would try to wait at least an hour or so between taking the homeopathic and eating ANYTHING or brushing your teeth (I've seen some directions that say as little as 15 minutes is okay but personally I'd err on the side of caution.)

I'd avoid using any lotions, shampoos, etc that have a really strong scent to them or wearing perfumes.

Other things to watch for are drinking coffee.

And don't store the homeopathic near your computer, stereo, TV etc.

Also avoid handling the homeopathic as the oils from your skin can disrupt their action.

Usually I tap the right number of pellets into the lid and then drop them into my mouth without touching them or the lid.(obviously this applies to pellets not liquids!)

Let them dissolve under your tongue.

I've used baking soda as "toothpaste" before or I've bought fennel flavored natural toothpaste at the health food store.

Shanna pretty much covered it. Boiron, one of the manufacturers of homeopathics, makes a toothpaste called Homeodent that you can use while taking homeopathics. Kind of lemony. Baking soda should be fine.

Di, are you using homeopathic Samento? I haven't heard of it, though it should be able to be made according to standard methods.

If you're using herbal Samento, that's not a homeopathic and I'm not sure you need to be concerned about your toothpaste.

The way to tell if you're using a homeopathic is 1) it says so somewhere on the label; 2) the strength has a number and a letter like 30C or 10X.

"Tom's of Maine" brand has a wonderful baking soda toothpaste in a variety of flavors. The best part is that they also offer flouride free toothpastes.

They even have a children's line too. It can be found in health food stores and in some major supermarkets. The bigger variety would be in the health food store though.

At my house (where we've been using homeopathic remedies since I was little) we have Tom's of Maine toothpaste, either in Fennel or Cherry (I like the cherry better because I'm not a fennel fan).

Samento isn't a homeopathic med but I can understand the mix up. When there's so much to keep track of it's bound to happen!
