Hi again all,

I took the day off work today because I feel sooooo crap. Been on mino for about three weeks now and today (and yesterday) I feel sooo tired and just weak, plus I have a sore throat, headache, backache, and really "stingy eyes" - like I have to keep blinking all the time. I suppose it could be either a herx or some sort of cold, eh? Well I'm gonna go lie down for a while... take it easy all...

Dear Colin,

You'd think that with all the antibiotics we're taking, no self-respecting germ would dare invade, huh? But ya never know -- yesterday I a lot of those same symptoms: sneezing, achy, stuffy nose, stomach churning, crappy all over. Went to work for a few hours, sweat like crazy. After supper, good for nothing but bed.

Today, no sneezes, no stuffiness, feeling much better all around. I'm on tetra this week, starting penicillin next month. Never a dull moment.

If I had to bet, I'd say it was a herx.

Your symptoms are pretty close to mine. When I was herxing I would get a horrendus a cold, eyes itching burning.

The last bouts of herx's started when I went back on abx's lasted almost 2 months then cleared and came back every 28to34 days and would last about a week clear and start over in 28 to34 days again this went on for months now no more just ache once in while other than that doing pretty good.

ps Iam down to one omnicef a day now for 3 months.

Herx's dead spirochetes and other bacteria to the point where your body cant rid itself of all the toxins fast enough = massive cold and do you also sweat alot at any movement say up and down stairs a few trips?

Colds are caused by virus' which antibiotics have NO effect.

What you may be experiencing could be either a cold or a Herx reaction.

As my LLMD says, a Herx reaction is INTENSE Lyme symptoms that you have been experiencing in the past, AND, NEW INTENSE Lyme symptoms that you have NOT experience before.

Virus' have no response to anbibiotics. If you are Herxing, and this is going into your forth week, then, as some folks experience, this could be the cycle of the bacteria and thus, a Herx reaction.

But, the cold virus will not respond to antibiotics.

Rosemary is right about the abx not affecting a virus. I am on Bicillin and got a whopper of a cold that has lasted 2 weeks. I know it isn't just a herx because I have more head pressure than usual and feel fluish pretty much all day. Herx and cold combo is no fun. I upped the vit. C and garlic - seems to help.
