Well, I've been reading Dr. Atkins book about anti-aging. I like what he had to say.
I have little money. For that reason, and just because I don't want to eat THAT much meat, I'm having some difficulty coming up with breakfast and snack ideas.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't know how religiously I can stick to this, but I'm making a concerted effort to avoid sugar and white flour. I'm a carb junkie, and I want to improve my health and lose weight.
Thanks for any tips.
Steph
P.S. So far, I've figured on nuts, some fruit, plain yogurt and veggies, and cheese.

Food is fuel for your body. When you eat healthier foods your body can fight off diseases better. Fresh fruits and vegtables a very good if they are organic.Make sure that your diet is BALANCED, all natural, and free of processed sugars.Bacteria feed off of all kinds of sugar so be sure to drink fruit juice in moderation.Always read the lables on any juices that you buy;they often have added corn syrup(which is bad). Your snack ideas are all healthy.Good job!If you stick to it you will definently feel some improvement.I'm glad that you don't want to eat alot of meat.Animals have feelings. It is mean to kill and eat them unless they are the only things you can eat. Some people with Lyme develope food allergies. You could be severly allergic to some foods and not even know it because you might mistake the allergic reaction as a Lyme symptom. If you haven't already, get tested for food allergies. Also, your food allergies might change.Ask your doctor or someone else.I don't know too much about it.

I eat a high protein diet but do not follow Adkins. I think eating all that hi fat meat and dairy will kill you in the end.
I eat all organic meat with the exception of beef. One local supermarket carries Australian 100% grass fed beef. American beef is fed an unnatural diet of grain and is extremely fat. Australian beef is very lean and you wont believe the difference in taste.
Cheese, sour cream etc will clog your arteries no matter what he says.
I eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies every meal but no grain except a few rice cakes.
Lots of almonds, walnuts, and peanut butter. Organic peanut butter is cheap and great on celery, apple slices or rice cakes.
Breakfast today was spinace with a poched organic egg, 1 slice rice cheese and fresh organic red grapes. The rice cheese is the only processed product I buy and I dont use much of it.
Organic eggs wont raise your cholesterol. They eggs are different cuz of what they eat and so are we.
A handfull of nuts will satisfy the mid meal munchies.

Go to mercola.com. He has a whole cook book for sale with delicious recipes completely devoid of grains and processed carbs. On the site itself, there are thousands of articles you can read about nutrition based on actual studies. My entire diet has changed since I started to read these articles. The hardest thing is finding places that sell organic and raw foods that are so much better for you. I've been getting raw milk from an Amish farm nearby.

Chocolate treat
I eat this every day. I like bitter choc so dont use much stevia but you can add as much as you want.
Organic cocoa powder (plain) & stevia mix with water to form paste Taste and adjust stevia
Add Oil: "Carlsons The Very Finest Fish Oil" has a lemon taste and is very good with the chocolate /// Flax Oil /// Organic Virgin Coconut oil I usually use a combo of the 3.Coconut oil has caprylic acid in it which is good for killing yeasties etc.
You can add chopped almonds or walnuts.
I usually mix a batch enough for a week.
I often add 2 tbl of Jarro Fermented soy powder as an easy way to get it down. You can take some of the chocolate mixture add more water, add the soy and even some mixed frozen organic berries for a nice breakfast or snack shake.
I need my chocolate every day and this is a healthy way to get it without feeding the yeasties and the hips.
Its pure pleasure and good for your body and soul

I started the South Beach diet about a week ago, no carbs allowed for the first 2 weeks. It says you can have a sugar free frozen fudge pop. It satisfies my chocolate craving.

My favorite snacks and treats are:
plain yogurt with peanut butter mixed in (I get the all natural kind of pb - just peanuts and salt)
Lindt's Excellence Dark Chocolate Bar, with 70% cocoa - for chocolate lovers, it's real dark chocolate with out too much sugar. I eat 1 or 2 squares to get the craving.
Granny Smith apples and pears - I think Dr. B says they are ok, because of the fiber. But not on an empty stomach
Eggs - hard boiled are great to keep in the fridge and soft-boiled are a real treat
Deli meat - I usually stick with roast turkey or smoked turkey. The higher quality, the less likely there is corn syrup or food starch in it. I get fresh cut from a deli or Fresh Fields.
And I keep nuts by my desk all day.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate these suggestions. I haven't done the most severe "Induction." I will do that when I'm a bit better. Just curtailing the carbs quite severely is causing die off! I'm having encephalitis symptoms (rage and a killer headache).
Anyway, I'm eating few carbs.
I love these snack ideas. Steph
