I just had an ultrasound of my thyroid done and I have three noduals. Then I went to get those biopsied. I see the endocrinologist again tomorrow to get results from all of the tests they did and I am so nervous. Not so much for there to be something serious, but for him to say he can't help me. I have had LD for what Docs think has been years. I have been on abx for a year and I still hurt...so so bad! My joints, muscles and especially my knees just are in so much pain. I knwo I asked this before, but I am still needing to know if anyone thinks this thyroid problem can be from the LD? Or related some how? They think I may have what is called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis...which is an autoimune disease that destroys your thyroid and it's function. I am heavier that I have ever been in my life. I haven't been able to eat because my throat and neck hurt so much but I am retaining weight and a friend told me I looked "puffy" today. I need some help. Anyone have any thoughts??? Nancy

Hashimoto's is a very common autoimmune thyroid problem. Some think it is caused by an intracellular infection, in which case Lyme could be implicated.
It can be treated by taking the correct doses of thyroid medications for YOU. You need to find someone knowledgeable, so they don't just follow the party line, but will use both labs and symptoms to adjust your meds.
Treating thyroid can take time. I've heard that once your doseage levels are correct, improvement in health can continue for two years! The thyroid hormones are used by every cell and organ, so it takes time for any damage to be reversed.
My mom (the Lymie of the family) had a nodule and a cyst biopsied earlier this year. Both came back as benign.
Try not to freak out too badly - thyroid issues are very treatable these days. Heck, my sister's cat just had the radioactive iodine treatment done for his thyroid - if they can manage a cat's thyroid, they can manage yours!

My mom also has thyroid issues and nodules were found. All turned out to be fine. My mom is to work on strenghing her immune system.
Anyway, while she was freaked out and her computer down, my reseach suggested that nodules were ok, that a growth would be more of an issue.
My mom isn't to the point of knowing just what condition she has, maybe Grave's. I say Lyme. She lives in the woods in NJ and has a bunch of symptoms.
