Has anyone had severe chest pain when breathing from a herx?

I have it only on my right side when I breath,, pain really really bad.
I could not stop crying all night last night... the pain started about 9pm last night... now it is 11Am, and still with me.

I am on the DOXY, on 200mgs a day...
have been really herxing from this dosage...
and possibly this is a herx, the chest pain.

I am on say 16 of the Doxy.

I can go to emergency, but the wait is anywhere from 6-10 hours. Was up there before... for 8 hours, did lung xray nothing showed. I have NEVER had this chest pain... so dont know... last time up in emergency from shortness of breath.
Was having a lyme relapse, did not know it.

I dont really know if i have lyme, have to do more testing, possibly this is another infection that the antibiotics helps.

I will go up there later if things get worse.

thanks,

Trish

I've had severe chest pain and sob. Found out I had a prolapsed mitral valve. When your body is real stressed is when it usually happens. Anyway my doc started me on cardizem and like magic it was gone in 1 hr. Lyme does cause cardiac problems. The most well known effects the AV node and some people have to have a pacemaker. Anyway I wouldn't mess around with chest pain. See a doctor. Good luckQUOTE]Originally posted by Health:

Good advice, everyone! Say, Trish, if all other relief options fail you, try getting a good adjustment from a chiropractor.

That has really helped me with that same problem.

Sounds like mycoplasma to me.

I was in the ER three times for severe chest pains. Of course, nothing was ever wrong....

well , I went up to emergency, after much thought... and waited for hours.
Did not want to go, but thought I better incase.

Did the lung xray and blood clot tests.

Nothing the Dr said. He said after talking to me he felt it was a pulled muscle in the lung area. When I bend down the pain is
severe, and when I lay down on my side, and even on my back the pain is like knife stabbing pains.

He said to take some pain killer and see how I do for a few days.

Never had a pulled muslce before, maybe a HERX? brought it on in the lung area?
Not sure.
Would never had thought a pulled muscle could be so painful like you are about to die everytime you breath.

Dr at emergency said that the lung area pulled muscle was quite common.

I hope he is right, cause I really feel like I am dying every breath I take.
I hope the antibiotics have not stopped working.

I cannot wait to be well one day, and look back at this as a NIGHTMARE never to be journeyed through again.
Rife machine, here I come.

Trish,
You might want to go back and have a repeat xray done. I had a similar thing this summer and they missed it in emerg on the first xray because fluid had just started to fill the pleural lining. 2 days later my lung had collapsed from huge amount of fluid that had collected. My ID doc felt it was from a massive herx. He also said it presented the same way as a pulmonary embolism. This is not something to mess around with.

If it is pleurisy, the pain is from friction of the pleural membranes rubbing against each other is excruciating and I totally can relate to the pain you are describing.

Once the fluid fills the space and the highly sensitive areas are no longer rubbing , the pain decreases. However, it is harder to breath since the lung mass has been displaced by the fluid.

I think we have the same llmd. You may want to call him and discuss this as well.

It could be something else, and completely innocent such as a stitch or spasm, but there are other things that need to be ruled out.

Good luck! I hope you can get this sorted out.

The respiratory therapist told me to put hot wet towls around my sides too where the pain was to help the pain and spasming.

thanks Sleepy,

Yes, it may be from a herx.
I was thinking this.

So what did they do for you when your lung
collpased? I thought that if your lung collapsed you had to have some kind of surgery?

yes, the pain is unbearable, and dont know how I am going to sleep. I took some pain meds, but did nothing.

I will call the LYME MD tomm.

Did you stop your antibiotics?

Sleepy, I cannot believe that the LYME MD told you it was from a herx. He told me that he has NOT seen others with lung problems, he was hesitant to treat me until I started to really cry and sob in his office that I would die without treatment.
He said it could be a placebo that the antibiotics were helping me.
You can imagine how INCREDIBLELY upset this made me.

Anyways, I think you were on the IV Rocephin? I recall this on here with you when you said this.

I may stop the doxy for 2 days to see how I am. I am only on 100mgs of the Doxy twice a day.

I asked the MEdical Dr at emergency if it was a collpase lung and he said no.

I just got the pain yesterday.
POSSIBLY if I stop the antibiotics till the herx settles down I will be ok. I am just in so much pain I feel I will die in the lungs.

Trish,
It was the infectious disease doc who was managing my case and the IV Rocephin and he said that he had seen fluid collect around the heart and that it was possible it had collected around the lungs. If you do a google search on lyme and pleurisy on the internet, it's amazing what you'll find.

The lung collapsed as a result of fluid (from bacteria/irritation etc?) building up in the pleural space. Eventually there was so much fluid, the lung was pushed out of the way.

My body eventually reabsorbed this.

Otherwise, the plan was to aspirate it (good grief!!).

I wasn't in contact with our llmd until a month later and just told him what was going on because it evolved into quite an emergency after that with CT scans and all sorts of stuff being monitored.

Good luck!! I also remember the respiratory therapist said that shallow breathing makes it worse.
