Grrr. Just lost the whole dang post. will have to cliff note it.

History - dx 6 wks ago. newly infected. Was undermedicated 3 wks, saw llmd and have been properly medicated last 3 weeks. To my knowledge - I've never herxed.

Yesterday, took doryx ec /biacin with a light lunch (typically have no probs this way) and vomitted all day into eve until I dry heaved. The burning of meds coming back was awful.

Next, uncontrollable shaking started. So much so, I banged me head on the bath counter. It was hard to get off the floor. Teeth chattered viciously for 30 minutes. 5 comforters later, it subsided.

Now headache is awful. no - not from head banging. Calling doc p when he opens.

everyone talks about feeling like dying when herxing. I think i died last night.

what happens to you when you herx? I think having a spectrum of what people go through might've helped prepare me. I don't have typical joint pain that seems to be in all herx descriptions. Dont recall hearing about violent shaking either. (and yes - I did a search already. )

Thanks for your input. hope this is understandable.

Thanks for the links. I can't read them right now cuz the font makes my head worse. I have read them in the past though.

I forgot about re-hydrating. Thanx much 4 that reminder.

Hi,

Sorry you're going through this. It sounds terrible.

The herx's are thought to be caused by bacteria die-off which releases toxins in to your system. Maybe your stomach is your "weakest link."

Everyone's herx is different depending on their infection and systems.

It's not a bad idea to contact your doctor in case there is something else going on though.

Trying to keep response brief so it's not too hard to read.

Take care,

Corgilla

nakaa, My daughter had a rough time on oral doxy..She had to take a lot of probiotics and cut back on the dose until she could tolerate it..Even now, on IV we had problems for a while until she built up to the dose.

Good luck.

I don't have experience with Doryx or Biaxin. I had a terrible first herx while on Doxy - heart palpitations, uncontrollable shaking and tremors, teeth chattering. Went to the ER because I thought I was going to die.

Switched to Rocephin and 3 weeks into that I was hallucinating, shaking, not able to keep food down, heart arythmia, etc. My sister took me to the ER because I walked right into a wall and conked my head.

I later learned that this was a herx, which had not been completely explained to me. I was told I would have a worsening of symptoms and would feel pretty sick for a while. THAT was an understatement.

I still herx but it is more tolerable and I was given an Rx to help with the anxiety of it. I take that when I feel a herx coming on. It helps me to wade through it and to sleep a bit.

Be sure to talk to your MD about this. Hope you feel better.

Bc

AMEN to all the above lymmies......I've had some or all of the same symtoms.....the only added thing I could say would be that I've found some abx are more tolerable than others......if I was vomiting and that sick I changed to something else.....still went thru the herxing but not with the nausea and vomiting.....biaxin was the worst for me.....doxy the best......now I'm starting zithromax today and crossing my fingers......

HI,
I was almost done the post and the dang thing disappeared... i'll try to rember everything.

I was wondering how long after you 1. ate and 2. took the abxs this episode happened

Sounds like it could be a herx...

But you could just not be able to tolerate one, both, or the combination of meds. (I'm not sure how long youve been taking this combo.... if its been 3 weeks that probaly isnt the case.)
__

Even though it is unlikely and some people here may think its silly for mentioning it......
Since you vomitted after eating I just wanted to mention that some people who are in treatment for lyme (well at least me) devolope allergies that they never had before.

(Ive had allergies come and go)
Maybe you could try eating the same thing with out the med sometime just to make sure.

--

Shelley gave a good definiton of a herx... Your current symptoms may intensify and/or you may experience symptoms you have never had before and/or symptoms that have disappeared may reemerge.

Just so you know you do not have to herx to get better.... a herx can last any amount of time ( mine have ranged from 1 hour to 3 months) and it does not necessarrily occur in a clean cycle... everyone reacts differently.
__

Also I wanted to mention that the act of throwing up once causes me some shaking freezing and headaches pluss I feel weighted and like my body is jello.... the more I vomitted the worse these sensations got....

Other times when I didn't vomit but was dehydrated I had a bad headache from it.

I'm not saying that these were definetely the cause to your shaking (because yours sounds almost seizure like ...which is why i am glad ur calling ur dr) but it may have contributed to it.

Best Wishes

Thanks everyone, for your responses.

I'm feeling much better now despite the headache and that hyperacusis thing that's kicked in again. Talked with Dr P earlier today. The plan is to lay off the meds until I see him on Tues.

As for now? I'm going to try to sleep tonight. Last night was a rough one.

~~Peaceful slumber vibes to you all~~

Barb

***edit Azure - your post wasn't there as I replied just a sec ago. I wanted to answer your question because it made me realize that the soup I ate was a new one. It could have kicked off the bad reaction somehow.

My med combo is 3 weeks old. I have had nausea w/it if I hadn't eaten at all, but never to the degree of what happened last night. My teeth chattered so hard my jaw hurt. It was insane, the way I had absolutely no control.

The return of my ear symptoms are what leads me to beleive it was a herx, even though the timing of it doesn't seem as cyclical as most occur.

thanks again.
