Today is day 10 of IV Rocephin. I'm infusing 2 g in 50 mL of saline. I'm infusing over 20 minutes.

Is that too fast? What happens if it's too fast? Will I know if it is? I don't feel anything bad or feel sick.

Thanks in advance.

If you start to herx, you'll know you dripped too fast. Somethings you can run through quickly, like saline, but others need to go slowly so you don't herx too badly. It all goes by what makes you feel comfortable. I usually had a drip on a count of 3 or 4 seconds apart.

Hope that helps.

My doctor's office told me it's best to aim for 30 minutes, or slower if you like, but to try not to go under 20.

ask them to look up the dilution in the *new* infusion drug book or *new* recommendations. 50mg sounds pretty concentrated to me. In the new book of infusion drugs where I'm getting infused it says 50 - 100mg for just ONE gram of rocephin.

I had a lot of problems with thrombosis and pain and swelling and palpitations. I've gotten mine changed to 250mg for 2 grams on a perephrial line. They infuse over an hour. A perephrial iv line is much harder on your veins though.

It seems a lot of nurses are familiar with infusing 1 gram, not 2 and there may be some confusion there.
