It all started this morning when I was in the bank, I thought the lady next to me had really bad breath.

But, when I got home I realized the smell had followed me. It is like a rotten smell coming from either within my nose or sinuses, or maybe from my stomach?

It's only when I breath in, and not all the time.

I have never ever had anything like this.

There is no obvious sign of any infection, and I'm on Biaxin anyway.

I have just been very very tired and recently feeling worse than usual, which I assumed was herxing. But, no symptoms of either sinus infection or any other kind.

Yeah I still get that I keep asking my wife can you smell that. She says what are you always sniffing for hahaha I dont know I always had a good nose especialy when fasting sences get really sharp.

Sometimes I thought it was my feet, but now I think it might be just the dead stuff in the sinus's?

Would like to know too!

Hey, just a thought:

do either of you still have your tonsils?

The year before I got mine out (as an adult) I had the same thing. The surgeon said they were extremely "pitted" (deep cavities in them) and there were these light greenish yellow balls of rotten stuff (food, etc) in them. Sorry, gross...

Also, after they came out there was still strep deep inside them. I had been on abx for weeks to get rid of the strep in preparation for the surgery. So, even though strep tests were negative before the surgery, my pitted, bad tonsils still harbored an active infection when they were tested once removed.

My point is, unhealthy tonsils can be a cesspool of junk. My bad breath and smelling bad rotten junk cleared up when I got rid of my tonsils.

Leslie

Ps. ONly read this ps if you don't gag easily

Several months before my surgery, my doctor gave me these really long q-tips and told me to try to keep my tonsils clean myself. And I managed to get good at this. I was told to press lightly on my tonsils with the swab and these solid balls of junk would pop out of my tonsils. Like popping a pimple. And I mention this why?? Because they stunkk to high heaven!!! I couldn't believe what came out of my tonsils! Gak!!!Was most likely why I always inhaled a rotten smell.

Hi Treepatrol

I can't imagine having a horrible smell on a regular basis - must be awful. I have NEVER experienced this before except when I've had really bad sinus infection. But, when there's infection, you know about it. I have no sign of any infection, yet the smell is very very bad of something rotting. (my brain ???).

Fish,

Yes, I had my tonsils out in 1994. My ENT surgeon said he'd never seen tonsils so big, they had burrowed their way into the back of my neck. And, yes I know about the horrible gunk that used to get stuck in the tonsils. YUK.

Can this smell thing be a herx-related thing? Or a meds related thing?

Occasionally I have the same problem. Now don't laugh but I also have auditory hallucinations and am wondering if there is such a thing as smell hallucinations.

This is a new symptom for me and I just figure it goes with all the others. Interesting to find out others are 'smelling things' too.

DLL,

You're brain better not be rotting! We need ya!

Glad you're tonsils are out. hmmmm, maybe just the abx or lyme? Sorry I couldn't help out.

Interesting about lyme/hallucinations...I don't see why not? Lyme can mess up anything!

LOL, well something is rotting anyway...Actually not sure which is worse, something within actually rotting/rotten, or hallucinating the rotten smell...

Perhaps it is from herxing. I have been worse for just about 2 weeks and felt awful and also incredibly tired. I had a headache/pressure feeling for over a week and louder than usual ringing in my right ear. So, it could be (my silly theory now) that there WAS something being killed off in my brain and is now making the rotten smell.

I'll let you know if anything horrible crawls out of my nose, ears or eyes!!!

I know this does stink! Beach!!!

Anyway,DLL,when I was first suspecting Lyme,I could smell this horrible rotting ,nasty odor.

We have a cat that will bring nice little treats on the porch ,you know he is so proud of his catch and wants to keep us happy. So the smell of a dead mouse is one I have gotten to know, yuck.

One week though I kept telling my husband that the same smell was occuring and please check around. We looked over and under and nothing.

It did not go away and could not find a thing and he could not smell anything and I was almost shipped off to the looney bin.

About the next week, after all this lookin and sniffin,my mother -in -law,who was by this time also supporting her dear son in dealing with the nut case, handed me an article.

This article was about Amy Tan and in it she described her smell hallucination of rotting rats.

Well,I have never felt so relieved, knowing I was not going crazy and that someone else had indeed had the same weird experience.

Lyme is so weird and that stuff finally went away.

Now with the horrible "sweats" I have to be careful that nobody sees me having a pit check!Oh ,the things we have to deal with having this crud.

I have never smelled a dead body, but I am imagining that the smell I have is of that.

Hi,

If what DLL is talking about is an hallucination, then, it's called an olfactory hallucination.

I was also thinking of the Amy Tan article when I read the subject before clicking on here.

I've had several different "flavors" of olfactory hallucinations. Sometimes sickeningly sweet, sometimes malty, sometimes dead smell and sometimes skunk smell.

I also have auditory hallucinations. Actually, haven't had one of those in years. I used to hear a radio playing from far, far away.

Another thing I have and haven't read much about on here is peripheral hallucinations. I see things out of the corner of my eyes that aren't there.

They move quickly. My first thoughts when I see them is that it's a flying bug or bird if up high and if down low, I think it's a running mouse. When I look square on, there's nothing there.

My LLMD said she's heard many complain about this. Suggested I see LL Opthamalogist 'cos she's interested to see what he says about it.

It's got to be neuro.

Hope this *is* what DLL has and her brain isn't really rotting.

Take care,

Corgilla

Tree, what a cute little gritter.Once when I was horse riding way out in the woods ,I came upon a mother skunk ,5 little babies right behind.I sat back and gave my dog orders not to move!We were lucky and Mom and clan went on their merry way!

Gorgilla,I have recently had these peripheral hallucinations.Did not think much yet of them,Thanks for the notice, now I know that is not my imagination.

I did have the music ones earlier in treatment, before going to sleep, boy if I could have just put those songs on paper.

DLL,

I get those 'hallucinations' both with smell and hearing also. Also when something used to smell good and now to me smells bad.

Fish, I have my tonsils and they are in bad shape too, geez I just saw my 9 year old go thru getting them out and I dont wanna, lol.

Good luck DLL, wish I had ideas for help.

Sniff Sniff

Goodness, which one of you is responsible for that odor?

DLL- may I suggest a bath in some tomato juice? How about some Borax?

Ok ok, no funnies. I used to have olfactory hallucinations and I constantly smelled

bleach and burning wires.

Is it possible this is happening to you ?

Hello everyone, this has been disgused many times before here.I don't know how to access the old post tonight but it is funny. Here is my take on it. The keets are little tiny worms. Upon dieing they start to smell like dead nightcrawlers left under a boat seat in that plastic container. They die from our ABX treatments. Then they sweat out of our bodies and STINK!!!! This has happened to me many times PPPEEEEUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tree: Great psot. I have a Pepe la Pu living under my front porch. She really stinks.

Corgilla: I have the peripheral hallucinations daily, mostly at the end of the day. I suddenly turn my head because I think I saw a bug or a flashing light or even a person. I did it the other night and scared the living daylights out of my sister because I turned quickly to see what was (not) there. She said I am either nuts or seeing ghosts and to knock it off before I give her a cardiac episode.

So glad to know I am not nuts, unless of course you all are as well.

Does it smell like liver?

Posted by Corgilla (Member # 4066) on :

Hey Beach: I used to be crazy, but I'm all right now.

DLL: If it smells like liver, that would be really bad, huh?

I hope you don't feel like we're making light of your problem. Sorry if you do.

I've seen some interesting possiblities here.

Hope we're helping as well as having some fun.

Corgilla

Well, the ex always had a horrible rotting smell.....could not stand to kiss him.
I am guessing it was his sinuses, but not sure.

I also have lots of peripheral hallucinations, especially at night while driving.

Fish, love the description you gave, could not stop reading!

Don't make fun of the skunks! I like the smell they put out! No, really, smells like coffee to me.

Before I ever knew I had lyme, I used to smell something burning and would look through the house, to see if anything was smokin.
