I learned something new from the post on the ILADS conference. Thank you Kris for the post.

One of the faux diagnoses of Lyme, according to the conference, is "water on the knee" as well as "torn cartilage." At about the time my other symptoms began, I had "water on my left knee" which later led to knee surgery to remove a bone chip or piece of cartilage. Now, I wonder if that was another symptom of Lyme Disease. It seems to fit.

Thanks,
Scott

Besides the bite and rash, water on the knee was my first symptom. I was 14, and it started about 12-18 months after the bulls-eye rash.

I had "chronic recurring water on the knee" throughout high school. After year 1, it came less often until it became more of a nuisance than anything.

My doctor did suspect Lyme, but he never got a positive test. He didn't want to put me on such high doses of abx at the age. I actually went back to him about 18 months ago, when I was searching for a diagnosis for my current symptoms. He told me not to stop until I found a doctor who thinks outside the box, and is willing to search for an answer. That brought me to my LLMD.

Because of that which I didnt know back when I first got this lyme I tore three tendons and blew my left knee out actualy folded it backwards miniscus both tore, postacrucia tore there is no knee problems on either side of my family.

All the injuries I have had were after 1988 when I first got infected and went till 2001 before diagnoses tested every year for lyme by local hospitals.

The second time my left knee swelled (it was also the site of my tick bite and EM, although at that time I had no idea what all of that meant, stupid me ) in a month I finally decided that it was time to find out why. At first I thought maybe I had just been clumsy and ran into something the first time but the second time the edema was much worse, duh, knew I had a problem then. Blood tests were taken and it was my first diagnosis with Bb. garinii.
I have also had edema in my right knee almost 1 year to date of the left knee swelling up. Had synovial fluid aspirated and sent to lab in Prague. Test results positive a second time for 2 strains of Bb. garinii and afzelli (both are European strains).
Current diagnosis for my knees (MRI's on both knees) is Chronic Synovitis bilat. of knee joints
Think my left knee is about to swell again, get a tight feeling in it just before it happens. Have been off antibiotics for 6 weeks and all of my symptoms, + some, have returned. Starting doxy tabs tomorrow and iv flagyl on Monday.

What a roller coaster ride this is!!
