transmission in placenta (by birth) has been proven. though that should not make one conclude that borrelia (lyme) is indeed transmissable by sex. lyme is not an std.
lyme is not transmitted by saliva. i can't speak of blood but it most doubtful. i have yet to read a case of lyme transmitted by blood.

i am neither an md nor a biochemist. i have never seen a spirochete under a microscope.
it's plausible, but their is no good science to back it up, at this point.
From everything I have read and heard, I believe Lyme is found in all bodily fluids - even tears. I know some people who swear they have infected their partners - and this includes women as well as men.
Do a search on sexual transmission and you will find more information from previous posts on this topic.

word of mouth is not a suitable replacement for scientific discovery and clinical observation. i don't want you to get the wrong impression from misinformation.
lyme has been cultured in vivo from an infected person's skin tissue (at site of infection), blood, spinal fluid, joint tissue, bone marrow, lymph nodes, semen, urine and breast milk.
as stated it is known to be passed via mother from the placenta to a fetus.
where lyme has been cultured from and its transmissability are two VERY seperate things.
if it was passed by sweat or tears everyone a lyme person came in contact with would be more or less infected.
this is like people who claim that aids is spread by sweat or tears. it's just not true.
lyme is not an std, though it is a spirochete illness.
syphillis, another spirochete illness can be passed by sexual tranmission. so the possibility of sexual transmission transmitting lyme is possible, yet not at all proven.
In my opinion, like syphlis, which is also a spirochete which is highly contagious,,,,,,,,,,,,,,why should lyme..which is also a spirochete not be???
So much is unknown regarding lyme disease.
aunty
they may have made clinical observations though.
and i agree lyme spirochetes, like syphillis, may be transmitted via intercourse (which i haven't had in a long time due to lyme, lol) but like i said that is not unequivocally proven...
but nothing concerning lyme is unequicovally proven except the fact that it is spread by those damned ticks!

Prior to meeting my husband 17 years ago I had no symptoms but after a few years, I started to have some strange things come up until being dx this year.
In my opinion I think it could be but just don't know for sure.
I respectfully disagree with you. Additionally, I've been a member of this board for over 3 years and I also do a LOT of research so I'm not just blowing off steam when I state that I believe this. Frankly, you are just stating your own opinions on this matter as well since it has barely been studied. I would think, that if we were to error on one side or another then it would be to the side of caution, to that of protecting those we care about and insuring that they don't become infected.
Oh, and I don't think that someone crying will automatically infect someone else. However, if the other person were to have an exposed and open wound that were to become wet from the infected person's tears...then, I would say there is a risk. I believe it is the same with AIDS. It doesn't enter through closed skin but an open wound provides easy access to the bloodstream.
Take care,
Angie
