HI, I have had confirmed Lyme for 8 years. I thought, as did my DR. I was in remission. Sixteen months ago I had over a dozen blood clots, DVT, and now I have a bone lesion in my right foot. It showed up on x-ray, bone scan, and MRI. Orthopedic thinks it might be the Lyme. Has anyone else had this? What treatment did you go on? He has me currently on Biaxin and Amoxycilin until he can figure out more about it. Thanks for your help.

First off, I am sorry about your clotting episodes.....but I also must **immediately** ask you.......has anyone ever checked you out for thrombophilia??
Blood Clotting disorders?? Anyone esle the family have problems with clotting?, strokes?
It's a genetic issue, that's why I ask( I also have this problem)
Chronic infections---such as lyme, can also cause hypercoaglation(thick blood)But to my knowledge--it doesn't usually cause a whole lot of DVT's, just typically gives you miserable syptoms.
You would need an ISAC panel to check for hyper-coalag problems
If any problems show up, you may need to go on Heparin injections for awhile
I've dealt with both your problems in my *Time with Lyme*
My bone scan revealed a similiar finding to yours---but it was found while I was already recieving treatment for B.B(like into my 5th yr being treated) It never resolved, but I have no new lesions, and the one that I have has not gotten any worse
I know a gentleman who had lyme( 1st bout) over ten yrs ago, it went into remission for over 8 yrs---no sx., he felt totally normal---working, and running daily
Eventally--his knees started to bother him(he was now in his 50's) and they had to replace the right knee
The lyme was found in the fluids sampled during surgery(yes, I was also surprised that he had any fluids left in his knee---the joint was so badly degraded) and he had to start re-treatment for lyme( over two yrs of treatment to get the disease back into remission)
He is doing fine know

dear G.S. interestingly, this was how I found out that I had lyme disease. After the following incident, there was a series of events and I became very ill. To make a very long and complicated story short here goes: Because of the way I was getting out of a chair in Jan. 04. heard & felt a pop in my right wrist. Broke and dislocated because of a lesion/cyst in my wrist. Also seen on x-ray, mri and bone scan. No drs. i've seen want to do anything about it at this time, probably because of all of my complications. my llmd has me on doxy for the time being. regards paisley

Thanks for the replies to my question. There are no other clotting problems in my family. My parents are 86 and 89, active every day, and only take one blood pressure tablet a day. I have had no other incidence of clots. This just happened, or at least became evidident suddenly, when my left leg turned burgandy. I have no arterial problems anywhere, or circulatory problems. I am on Coumadin, but only have to take 1mg. one day and 1.5mg the next, alternating. My clotting time (PT) has been 1.7 every month, but one, which was 1.4, for the last 9 months. I had very good care with this from a highly respected vascular specialist, but the cause of this is still in doubt. I had taken a trip, but did stop for frequent breaks since I also have severe fibromyalgia. My primary care dr. told me just the other day when we got some new information about a "cheezy substance" found in knee joints during replacement surgery in Lyme patients, he thinks possibly that restricted the flow through my knee and contributed to the clots, all from my knee to groin. He feels one day we will tie all my problems together in a nice neat bow with Lyme disease on it. This current problem started with just a sore rt. foot. I assumed it was just one of my usual aches and pains until it got worse. X-ray showed it to be osteolytic lesion, in the bone rather than the soft tissue as I assumed. Bone scan showed very, very hot spot there, but no where else. MRI shows problem, but is unclear about the cause. It is some better since I started back on Biaxin and Amoxycilin. We are assuming it is the Lyme, and if others have had similar problems it probably is. I learned a long time ago, assumptions get you in trouble, as in my not going to dr. sooner with foot!! I have had bone bruises (mirco-trebecular tears) in my bones from LD infection. Fortunately as the LD is clearing out of bone especially long bones the painful bone bruising has appearred. Antiboitic treatment is helping to fight the infection and allow the ones to heal with the help of Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT) and appropriate supplimentation. I wish you well.

Glad to hear that you are in good hands with the vascular doctor, and that your parents are so healthy
My bone scan showed a very hot spot like yours--so I believe it to be good news that it hasn't gone any farther
Good luck with your lyme treatments, and at least you know the reason behind the bone lesion, just think of all the poor souls out in the world--who have these same problems, and have NOOO idea that there is an infectious agent behind this.
